The Taylors and Company 1886 Ridge Runner is a classic lever-action rifle built for hunters and shooters who appreciate authentic Western aesthetics paired with practical performance. Chambered in .45-70, this compact rifle delivers serious stopping power in a handy package—ideal for woods hunting, hunting from horseback, or anyone seeking that timeless Winchester 1886 profile without the vintage price tag. At just 7.8 pounds with an overall length of 37.5 inches, it maneuvers through tight timber and mounts easily in a saddle scabbard, making it a favorite for brush country and close-quarters hunting where speed and reliability matter.
The Ridge Runner's 18-inch half-octagonal barrel is the heart of its appeal: shorter than its full-size cousins, it swings faster and points instinctively, while the half-round, half-octagonal profile keeps the weight down without sacrificing strength. The action cycles smoothly through four rounds in the magazine tube, feeding .45-70 ammo with the mechanical reliability that lever guns are known for. The matte-chrome finish resists corrosion in wet conditions and won't flash in the field, and the black soft-touch padded stock provides a comfortable, secure grip in any season.
Practical sights come ready to use: a Skinner rear sight gives you a solid foundation for hunting loads, and the open setup means quick target acquisition without battery dependence. Whether you're pursuing elk and bear, running a backcountry camp rifle, or just want an honest, beautiful lever gun that works, the 1886 Ridge Runner delivers the goods with style.

What game is the .45-70 Ridge Runner suitable for?
The .45-70 Government is a proven large-game cartridge ideal for elk, bear, moose, and deer—especially at the hunting ranges where the compact Ridge Runner shines, typically under 150 yards. Its stopping power makes it a smart choice for thick brush or dangerous game where a quick, powerful shot matters.
Is this rifle good for backcountry or horseback hunting?
Yes. At 7.8 pounds and 37.5 inches long, the Ridge Runner is one of the slimmest, lightest lever guns available. Its compact dimensions and classic design make it ideal for riding horses, navigating timber, or packing into remote camps where a handy, reliable rifle is more valuable than flat-shooting finesse.
