The Taylors & Company 1886 TC86 Takedown .45-70 rifle is a modern take on a classic American lever-action design, built for hunters and shooters who demand both authenticity and practicality. The standout feature here is the takedown action—the barrel and foregrip separate from the receiver for easy transport and storage, making this .45-70 an ideal companion for backcountry hunts, remote camps, or anywhere space is at a premium. At 16.5 inches, the barrel strikes a balance between handling in tight cover and chamber velocity, all while keeping total length to 37.5 inches and weight at a trim 7.8 pounds.
The rifle wears a color case-hardened receiver paired with a checkered walnut pistol-grip stock that delivers both control and classic aesthetics. A rubber buttplate tames recoil impulse, and the oversized lever is designed to operate smoothly whether you're wearing gloves or shooting in harsh conditions. Integral to the design are sling mounts for field rigging, letting you configure the rifle for your hunting style.
From the factory, the TC86 comes rigged for immediate use: a Weaver rail on the receiver accepts modern optics or the included Skinner peep sight, while a fiber optic front sight provides a bright sight picture in low light. The muzzle features 5/8x24 threading with a threaded cap, opening the door to muzzle devices down the road. With a 4-round capacity, the .45-70 delivers stopping power suitable for big game at moderate to close range—the cartridge's knockdown reputation has been proven in the field for over 150 years.
Whether you're pursuing elk in tight timber, planning an expedition into rough country, or simply want a lever gun that disassembles for transport without tools, the TC86 Takedown bridges nostalgia and modern hunting needs.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the TC86 takedown rifle suitable for hunting elk and large game?
Yes. The .45-70 cartridge has a well-established track record for big game hunting. The TC86's short barrel and lightweight frame make it especially handy for timber hunts and rough terrain where you need mobility without sacrificing power.
Can I add a modern scope to this rifle?
Yes. The rifle features an integrated Weaver rail on the receiver, which accepts standard Weaver-mount optics. It also ships with a Skinner peep sight and fiber optic front sight if you prefer iron sights.
What comes in the box with the TC86?
The rifle includes the Skinner peep sight mounted on the Weaver rail, a fiber optic front sight, and a threaded muzzle cap. No magazine, ammunition, or additional accessories are included—those are customer choice.
Can I add a muzzle brake or silencer to this rifle?
The barrel is threaded 5/8x24, so muzzle devices designed for that specification can be attached. However, your options depend on local and federal regulations regarding muzzle devices on short-barreled rifles.
