The Taylors & Co 1873 Birdshead Cattleman Checkered .357 Mag revolver brings authentic Old West styling to shooters who appreciate single-action reliability and classic lines. Built on a forged frame—a construction method that delivers superior grain structure and proven durability—this 3.5-inch barrel revolver is ready for Cowboy Action Shooting, casual plinking, or anyone drawn to traditional Peacemaker-style handguns. The 1873 platform has earned its reputation across generations, and Taylor's & Company's version respects that heritage while offering the quality control and fit-and-finish details that modern shooters expect.

The Birdshead grip profile sets this Cattleman apart from standard Peacemaker variants, offering a distinct ergonomic feel and classic aesthetic that many prefer for its handling and appearance. Paired with checkered walnut grip panels, the design provides both visual appeal and practical texture for secure control. The blue finish with case-hardened frame is a timeless combination, adding visual depth while the hardened frame areas provide enhanced wear resistance in high-use zones.

.357 Magnum chambering gives you versatility—shoot lighter .38 Special loads for reduced recoil and cost during practice, or step up to full-power magnums when hunting or at the range. Six-round capacity and manual indexing keeps the operation simple and controllable. The blade front sight is straightforward and effective, letting you focus on sight picture without unnecessary complication. At 2.16 pounds and 8.5 inches overall, this is a revolver you'll actually want to carry or keep accessible, whether you're working Cowboy Action stages, hunting, or just enjoying a day at the range with a firearm that genuinely connects to shooting history.

Taylor's & Company's attention to forged-frame construction means you're getting a revolver engineered to handle repeated use and competition demands. The New Model frame design includes a plunger mechanism for straightforward cylinder pin removal, simplifying maintenance and cleaning in the field or at the bench.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between a Birdshead grip and a standard Peacemaker grip?

The Birdshead profile has a shorter, more curved grip that many shooters find more comfortable and faster to draw from. It offers a different ergonomic feel and gives this Cattleman a distinctive look compared to the larger, more angular standard Peacemaker grip.

Can I shoot .38 Special in this .357 Magnum revolver?

Yes. The .357 Magnum chamber accommodates .38 Special ammunition, making this revolver versatile for practice with cheaper, milder-recoiling loads or full-power magnum rounds when you need them.

Is this revolver suitable for Cowboy Action Shooting?

Absolutely. Taylor's & Company specifically designed this 1873 Cattleman with Cowboy Action competition in mind. The forged frame, reliable single-action mechanism, and traditional styling make it a popular choice for the sport.

What does forged frame construction mean for durability?

A forged frame develops better internal grain structure than cast metal, which results in a stronger, more durable component able to handle repeated firing and competition use over extended periods. It's a hallmark of quality revolver manufacturing.
