The Taurus Raging Hunter .460 S&W Mag revolver is a purpose-built big-bore wheelgun designed for hunters who need serious stopping power in a straight-shooting package. Chambered in the potent .460 S&W Magnum cartridge, this five-shot revolver delivers the kind of terminal performance you expect from a dedicated hunting handgun, especially for short- to medium-range work where precision matters more than capacity. The matte stainless finish strikes a practical balance—it's durable enough for field conditions and professional enough for the hunting camp.

What makes the Raging Hunter stand apart is its thoughtful engineering for recoil management and shootability. The ported barrel and gas expansion chamber work together to reduce muzzle lift, so you can get back on target faster between shots. The angular barrel design keeps weight down without sacrificing the 8.37-inch barrel length you need for velocity and accuracy at distance. A Picatinny rail is built into the top strap for mounting optics—a smart move on a hunting revolver where sight radius matters. The dual lockup cylinder means the gun locks up tight at the frame and forcing cone, the way dangerous big-bore magnums should.

Grip and control were clearly on the designers' minds. Cushioned insert grips tame the substantial recoil of .460 ammunition while keeping your hand secure. The DA/SA action gives you options: fire double-action for quick work, or cock the hammer for a cleaner, shorter trigger break when you're positioned and ready. Fixed front sight and adjustable rear sight come standard, and the transfer bar safety keeps things secure in the field.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I mount a scope on the Raging Hunter?

Yes. The revolver features a Picatinny rail on the top strap designed for scope mounting, which is a practical setup for a hunting revolver where magnified optics can extend your effective range.

What's the effective range for hunting with this .460 revolver?

The Taurus Raging Hunter is designed for short- to medium-range hunting scenarios. The 8.37-inch barrel provides the velocity needed for solid performance at typical handgun hunting distances, though exact performance depends on your ammunition choice and hunting application.

How does the porting on the barrel help?

The ported barrel, combined with the gas expansion chamber, reduces muzzle lift when you fire—this means less climb and faster target reacquisition between shots, a real advantage when precision matters in the field.

Is the Raging Hunter a good choice for hunters new to magnum revolvers?

The cushioned insert grips and porting help manage the substantial recoil of .460 ammunition, making it more shootable than an unported magnum revolver. That said, .460 S&W Magnum is a powerful cartridge, so shooter experience with heavy-recoiling firearms is a plus.
