The Taurus Raging Hunter 500 S&W 8.37" double action revolver is built for hunters who need maximum stopping power on dangerous game and large four-legged animals. This is the big-bore magnum revolver that serious hunters have been waiting for: a purpose-built platform chambered in the most powerful factory revolver cartridge available, with an 8.37-inch barrel and a five-round capacity. Unlike generic magnum revolvers, the Raging Hunter is engineered specifically for the brutal recoil and pressure of 500 S&W Magnum ammunition—and it shows in every detail, from the custom ported barrel to the reinforced cylinder lockup.

If you hunt dangerous game as a backup gun or rely on a revolver as your primary arm for elk, moose, bear, or other large game, the Raging Hunter delivers the terminal ballistics you need without making the gun unshootable. The ported barrel and unfluted cylinder work together to reduce felt recoil and muzzle flip—critical when follow-up accuracy matters. A top-mounted Picatinny rail lets you add optics or accessories, while the fixed front sight and fully adjustable rear sight support quick target acquisition. The dual-lockup cylinder system keeps everything secure when those heavy magnums ignite, and the cushioned grip spreads recoil across your hand for longer sessions at the range or in the field.

Built on a large frame from alloy steel with matte stainless finish on the barrel shroud and a matte black oxide cylinder, this revolver is designed to handle hard use. The target barrel crown supports precise, ethical shots—essential when hunting. At 67.5 ounces unloaded and 14.80 inches overall, it's substantial enough to manage recoil but not so heavy that it becomes a burden over long days in the field or as a truck gun.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Taurus Raging Hunter 500 S&W suitable for hunting large dangerous game?

Yes. The Raging Hunter 500 S&W is purpose-built for hunters pursuing large game like elk, moose, and bear, or as a backup revolver on dangerous game hunts. The 500 S&W Magnum cartridge delivers maximum terminal ballistics in a factory revolver, and the gun's porting and dual-lockup system are engineered to handle the recoil and pressure of this powerful round reliably.

Can I mount a scope or red dot on the Raging Hunter?

Yes. The revolver includes a top-mounted Picatinny rail that accepts optics and tactical accessories. This allows you to mount scopes, red dots, or other devices for faster target acquisition in the field or at the range.

What sights come on this revolver?

The Raging Hunter is equipped with a fixed front sight and a fully adjustable rear sight, allowing you to dial in your point of impact for accurate, ethical shots.

How does the ported barrel help with this revolver?

The custom ported barrel reduces felt recoil and muzzle flip by venting expanding gases, making the gun more controllable during follow-up shots—essential when hunting or training with such a powerful cartridge.
