The Taurus Raging Hunter 500 S&W is a 5.12" double action revolver built for hunters who refuse to compromise on stopping power. This isn't a caliber for the faint of heart—the 500 S&W Magnum is the most powerful factory revolver round you can buy, and Taurus engineered the Raging Hunter to handle it. With a 5-round capacity, this large-frame magnum revolver is equally at home as a backup gun on dangerous game hunts or as your primary for serious four-legged adversaries. It's the kind of iron that commands respect on the firing line and in the field.

Recoil management is critical when you're slinging 500 Magnum power, and Taurus didn't cut corners there. Custom ported barrel design and an unfluted cylinder work together to tame the substantial kick and muzzle flip you'd otherwise expect. That unfluted design also adds weight, further absorbing punishment. The result is a revolver that's genuinely manageable despite the freight-train ballistics downrange. A target barrel crown supports the precision you need for ethical, accurate shots—critical when hunting dangerous game where a second chance may not exist.

The feature set reflects what hunters actually ask for: a picatinny rail on top for mounting optics or red dots, fixed front sight paired with fully adjustable rear sights for field zeroing, and Taurus's dual lockup cylinder system engineered to keep things tight through the brutal firing cycle of magnum ammunition. Cushioned grips provide purchase where it matters, and the matte stainless and black oxide finish mix keeps the aesthetics rugged without unnecessary gloss.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I mount a scope or red dot on the Raging Hunter 500?

Yes. The Raging Hunter features a top picatinny rail designed for mounting optics, red dot sights, and other accessories. This makes it easy to set up the revolver the way you hunt.

Is the 500 S&W Magnum too much recoil for a revolver?

The Raging Hunter was engineered specifically to manage 500 Magnum recoil. The custom ported barrel and unfluted cylinder both work to reduce felt recoil and muzzle flip, making the revolver controllable despite the power of the round. That said, 500 Magnum is a stout caliber, and practice and proper technique matter.

What's the Taurus dual lockup cylinder, and why does it matter?

The dual lockup cylinder system is Taurus's reinforced locking mechanism designed to keep the cylinder secure and centered when firing magnum-rated ammunition. With a cartridge as powerful as 500 S&W, a secure lockup is critical for reliability and shooter safety.

Can the sights be adjusted for hunting?

Yes. The rear sight is fully adjustable, allowing you to dial in zero for your hunting distance and ammunition. The fixed front sight pairs with that adjustable rear for field-ready accuracy.
