The Taurus Public Defender Poly is a compact dual-caliber revolver built for close-quarters defense and backup carry. Chambered in both .45 LC and .410 gauge, this five-shot delivers flexibility in ammunition selection—step up to .45 LC for handgun ballistics or load .410 shotgun shells for short-range stopping power. At just 23 ounces with a 2.5-inch barrel, it's light enough for pocket or ankle carry but substantial enough to handle as a belt gun. The compact frame measures 7.65 inches long and 4.6 inches tall, fitting naturally in an IWB or open holster without printing.
Built for reliability in harsh conditions, the Public Defender Poly features a stainless steel finish over a polymer-enhanced frame—durable, corrosion-resistant, and easy to maintain. The double-action/single-action trigger gives you hammer-down safety at rest and the option to cock for precision if needed. A fixed front sight dressed with red fiber optic helps you acquire targets quickly in low light, while the Taurus Security System transfer bar prevents accidental discharge if the gun is dropped or mishandled.
Grip comfort comes from molded rubber panels that absorb recoil and provide purchase even with wet hands. This is a revolver that doesn't apologize for its job—no safeties to disengage under stress, no magazine to lose, just point and shoot when it matters. The Public Defender Poly is purpose-built for people who want a no-nonsense defensive tool that doesn't sacrifice firepower for concealment.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I shoot both .45 LC and .410 shells in the same revolver?
Yes. The Public Defender Poly is chambered for both .45 LC and .410 gauge ammunition, so you can load either round into the cylinder. The .410 is particularly useful for shorter-range defensive work, while .45 LC offers traditional revolver power at greater distances.
Is the Public Defender Poly small enough for concealed carry?
Absolutely. At 7.65 inches long, 4.6 inches tall, and weighing just 23 ounces, it's designed for deep concealment. The compact frame makes it suitable for pocket carry, ankle holsters, or inside-waistband rigs without printing or adding noticeable bulk.
What's included with the sight?
The Public Defender Poly comes with a fixed front sight equipped with a red fiber optic element. This helps you align your shot quickly, especially in low-light conditions. The sight is built into the barrel and cannot be adjusted.
How does the Taurus Security System work?
The transfer bar safety is a mechanical device that blocks the hammer from striking the firing pin unless the trigger is deliberately pulled. This prevents accidental discharge if the gun is dropped or subjected to impact, adding an extra layer of safety for carry.
