The Taurus Judge Public Defender 410/45 revolver is a compact, versatile defensive handgun built around a unique dual-caliber design that fires both .45 Long Colt and .410 bore ammunition. With a 2-inch barrel and five-round cylinder, this small-frame revolver delivers serious stopping power in a package designed for close-quarters protection—making it a trusted choice for home defense, vehicle carry, and backup roles where reliability and firepower matter.
Built rugged from day one, the Judge Public Defender combines a steel cylinder with a lightweight polymer frame finished in gray, keeping overall weight down to 27 ounces unloaded while maintaining the durability you expect from a defensive revolver. The single/double-action trigger gives you flexibility in how you shoot it, while the spurred hammer lets you cock for precision shots or work the double-action trigger for rapid fire when seconds count.
Sights are matched to the mission: a fiber optic front sight gathers light for fast target acquisition, backed by an adjustable rear sight for zeroing at defensive distances. The transfer bar safety prevents accidental discharge, and the Taurus rubber grips provide positive control and reduce recoil impulse shot to shot. At just 7.62 inches overall, this revolver conceals easily while offering the raw versatility of dual-caliber capability—load .45 Long Colt for deep penetration or .410 shot for wider spread at typical home-defense ranges.

Frequently Asked Questions
What ammunition does the Taurus Judge Public Defender shoot?
The Judge Public Defender is chambered for both .45 Long Colt and .410 bore ammunition, giving you the flexibility to load either caliber depending on your defensive needs. You can load a cylinder with all one type, or mix them—the five-round cylinder is sized to accept .410 ammunition up to maximum shot shell length.
Is the Judge Public Defender suitable for home defense?
Yes. The compact 2-inch barrel and lightweight 27-ounce construction make it easy to deploy quickly in home-defense scenarios. The .410 bore loading spreads shot in a wider pattern at typical indoor distances, while the .45 Long Colt option provides deep penetration if you prefer a single-projectile load. The fiber optic front sight aids target acquisition in low light.
Can I carry this revolver concealed?
The Judge Public Defender is compact—only 7.62 inches in overall length and 1.5 inches wide—making it suitable for IWB or ankle holsters, vehicle glove boxes, and nightstands. At 27 ounces unloaded, it's light enough for extended carry without significant fatigue.
Is the fiber optic sight adjustable?
The front sight is fiber optic (fixed), and the rear sight is adjustable, allowing you to zero the revolver to your preferred point of aim at defensive distances.
