The Taurus Deputy Tau 2-D4551 .45 Caliber Revolver brings Old West aesthetics to modern single-action shooting. Built on a medium frame with a 5.5-inch barrel, this 6-round .45 Colt revolver pairs classic lines with contemporary manufacturing and safety features. Whether you're drawn to traditional revolver handling, planning backcountry trips, or building a Western-themed collection, the Deputy delivers authentic single-action performance without compromise.
What sets the Deputy apart from clone revolvers is its transfer bar safety mechanism—a modern addition that lets you safely carry the gun fully loaded with a round under the hammer, something purists once had to forego. The single-action hammer breaks clean and falls easily under thumb pressure, supporting the fast, deliberate shooting the platform demands. The deep satin black finish on the steel frame, alloy steel cylinder, and alloy steel barrel gives the gun a refined, purposeful look.
Fixed blade front and rear sights keep things simple and reliable. At 38.2 ounces unloaded with an overall length of 11.04 inches, the Deputy sits in the sweet spot for shooters who want a revolver that carries well but doesn't feel toy-like in the hand. The 1:16.5 right-hand twist with 6 grooves is optimized for .45 Colt ballistics, whether you're loading factory rounds or working up handloads.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Taurus Deputy safe to carry fully loaded?
Yes. Unlike traditional single-action revolvers, the Deputy includes a transfer bar safety mechanism that allows you to safely carry all six chambers loaded with a round resting under the hammer.
What's the difference between the Deputy's double-action and single-action modes?
The Deputy is a DA/SA revolver, meaning you can cock the hammer manually for precise single-action trigger shots, or pull through in double-action mode for faster, defensive-oriented shooting. Most shooters favor single-action for accuracy and control with this platform.
Is .45 Colt ammunition easy to find?
We carry .45 Colt ammunition and can help you source factory loads and reloading components. The Deputy's 1:16.5 twist is optimized for .45 Colt ballistics, whether you're using factory ammunition or handloading.
