The Taurus Deputy Tau 2-D4541 .45 Colt revolver brings single-action aesthetics and modern safety features into one compact, trail-ready package. If you're drawn to classic Western-style revolvers but want the peace of mind that comes with contemporary engineering, the Deputy splits the difference: it wears the lines and handling of a traditional SA revolver while incorporating a transfer bar safety mechanism that lets you carry it fully loaded without worry. The 4.75-inch barrel strikes a balance between manageable size and sight radius, making it equally at home on the range, in a holster during backcountry trips, or as a working revolver for those who appreciate the .45 Colt's proven stopping power and heritage.

Built on a medium-frame steel platform with a deep satin black finish, the Deputy is straightforward and honest in its design. The single-action trigger and hammer are intuitive to shoot—that smooth hammer fall under your thumb becomes second nature quickly—while fixed front and rear sights keep things simple and reliable. At 36.40 ounces unloaded and just over 10 inches in overall length, it carries without bulk yet feels substantial in the hand. The six-round cylinder in .45 Colt chambering delivers the round's legendary reputation for hard-hitting performance.

Whether you're a Western enthusiast, a backcountry hunter or hiker who values a sidearm, or simply a revolver shooter who respects classic design, the Deputy Tau 2-D4541 offers genuine value without compromising on safety or shootability. This is a revolver that works, looks right, and doesn't apologize for either.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Taurus Deputy safe to carry with a round under the hammer?

Yes. The Deputy features a transfer bar safety mechanism that allows you to safely carry the revolver with a loaded chamber under the hammer, without risk of accidental discharge from impact or drop.

What's the difference between the Deputy's single-action and double-action modes?

The Deputy is a DA/SA revolver, meaning you can fire it by pulling the trigger in double-action mode (which cocks and fires in one motion) or by manually cocking the hammer first and using the lighter single-action trigger. This flexibility gives you options depending on your situation and preference.

Is the .45 Colt a good choice for hunting or backcountry carry?

The .45 Colt is a proven caliber with a long heritage and substantial stopping power. Whether it suits your needs depends on your specific application and local regulations—consult hunting regulations and best practices for your intended use.

Can I shoot .45 Colt ammunition in this revolver?

Yes. The Taurus Deputy Tau 2-D4541 is chambered in .45 Colt and fires standard .45 Colt ammunition. The 6-round cylinder holds .45 Colt cartridges only.
