The Savage Arms Axis II Precision 6.5 Creedmoor bolt-action rifle brings long-range accuracy within reach without the long-range price tag. Built on Savage's proven Axis II platform and upgraded with a chassis designed in partnership with Modular Driven Technologies (MDT), this rifle delivers the precision you'd expect from a gun costing twice as much. If you're serious about reaching out past 500 yards but tired of watching your budget disappear into a gunsmith's workbench, the Axis II Precision in 6.5 Creedmoor gives you the real fundamentals: a heavy carbon steel barrel, a crisp adjustable trigger, and an aluminum chassis that accepts standard AICS magazines.

The 22-inch carbon steel barrel is threaded and button-rifled with a 1-in-8 twist optimized for the popular Creedmoor cartridge. That twist rate handles heavy 140-grain match bullets well, letting you build loads that shoot true without chasing velocity rabbits. The matte black barrel and receiver keep glare down and aesthetics clean—nothing flashy, just working surfaces that get the job done. Weight comes in right at about 10 pounds, manageable for field work but stable enough for bench and match shooting.

Where the Precision model shines is the chassis. The MDT system wraps the action and magazine in a two-tone aluminum and injection-molded OD green skin that won't rattle or flex. You get M-LOK slots up front for mounting bipods or other rail gear, fully adjustable comb height and length of pull to dial in your natural point of aim, and a user-adjustable AccuTrigger tuned between 2.5 and 6 pounds. This is the kind of support structure you'd normally bolt onto a rifle separately—here it comes standard.

Chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor, the Axis II Precision accepts 8-round detachable box magazines. Whether you're training for precision rifle competition, hunting at distance, or just want a rifle that keeps improving the more you practice, this platform gives you a solid foundation without demanding a second mortgage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Axis II Precision good for long-range hunting and competition shooting?

Yes. The 6.5 Creedmoor chambering, heavy barrel, and MDT chassis system are all chosen to support precision shooting at extended distance. The adjustable trigger and comb height let you tune the rifle to your body and technique, and the 1-in-8 twist pairs well with the heavier match-grade bullets that deliver the best accuracy downrange.

Can I use standard AICS magazines and accessories?

Yes. The rifle ships with an 8-round detachable box magazine in AICS pattern, which is the industry standard. This means you have access to a wide range of aftermarket magazine options and compatibility with other rifle platforms using the same pattern.

What's included and what do I need to add?

The rifle comes ready to shoot with the chassis, adjustable trigger, and one magazine. You'll need to source optics, ammunition, and any accessories like a bipod or suppressor to match your intended use.

Is the barrel threaded?

Yes. The 22-inch barrel is threaded, so you can attach a suppressor, muzzle brake, or other muzzle device to suit your shooting environment and goals.
