The Savage Axis II Precision MDT Chassis in .308 Winchester is a modern, modular bolt-action rifle built for shooters who want serious accuracy without the serious price tag. Savage partnered with Modular Driven Technologies (MDT) to transform the proven Axis II platform into a precision rifle that punches above its weight class. The result is a .308 Winchester bolt-action rifle that delivers sub-MOA performance in a chassis system engineered for long-range hunting, match shooting, and tactical applications—all without emptying your wallet.

The MDT chassis is the star here. It's a purpose-built aluminum frame with an olive drab injection-molded skin that's both rugged and lightweight, weighing just under 10 pounds fully assembled. The chassis features M-LOK slots on the forend for mounting lights, barricades, and accessories, plus adjustable comb height and length-of-pull spacers so you dial in the ergonomics for your shooting position and body geometry. The right-hand configuration ships with either a metal or polymer detachable box magazine depending on caliber—in this case, an 8-round magazine for .308 Winchester.

Under the chassis sits the Axis II receiver with Savage's user-adjustable AccuTrigger, factory-set to break between 2.5 and 6 pounds so you can tune it to your preference. The 22-inch heavy barrel is carbon steel, button rifled, threaded, and finished in matte black with a twist rate of 1 in 10 inches—the right recipe for .308 Winchester hunting and target loads. The adjustable length of pull ranges from 13.5 to 14.5 inches, accommodating different shooter frames and gear setups. If you're building a versatile, upgradeable precision rifle platform that handles hunting, competition, or dedicated long-range work, the Axis II Precision delivers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Savage Axis II Precision compatible with Savage Axis II aftermarket chassis and upgrades?

This rifle ships with an MDT chassis exclusively designed for the Savage Axis II platform, so it accepts Axis II-compatible parts and upgrades. The M-LOK forend supports standard tactical accessories.

What ammunition should I use with the 1 in 10 twist rate?

The 1 in 10 inch twist is the standard rate for .308 Winchester and stabilizes a wide range of factory and handloaded rounds. Match your specific load to the twist rate and bullet weight for best accuracy; your dealer or ammunition manufacturer can advise on what works best for your hunting or competition needs.

Can I adjust the length of pull on this rifle?

Yes. The MDT chassis includes adjustable length-of-pull spacers, allowing you to dial the LOP from 13.5 to 14.5 inches to suit your body geometry, shooting position, and gear.

Is the trigger adjustable?

The rifle features Savage's AccuTrigger, which is user-adjustable from 2.5 to 6 pounds, so you can fine-tune the break weight to your preference.
