The Savage A17 is a semi-automatic rimfire rifle built from the ground up for the 17 WSM cartridge—a rare breed of purpose-built platform in a caliber most shooters never see in semi-auto form. If you're serious about small-game hunting, varmint control, or target shooting with a cartridge that punches well above typical rimfire performance, the A17 Target Thumbhole delivers accuracy and reliability in a package designed specifically for how 17 WSM behaves.

Built on Savage's delayed-blowback action, the A17 cycles 17 WSM with mechanical precision that you won't find in rifles designed for 22 LR and merely adapted afterward. The case-hardened receiver and hard chrome bolt are built to handle the pressure curve of this cartridge without compromise. The 22-inch heavy barrel is fluted—shedding weight without sacrificing the mass that matters for precision—and button-rifled with a 1-in-8 twist optimized for 17 WSM ballistics. All of this sits in a gray wood-laminate thumbhole stock that's both durable and designed for the kind of shooting where you're settling in behind the gun, not slinging it across a field.

The AccuTrigger is user-adjustable, so you can dial in the break weight to match your shooting style and the load you're running. The 8-round rotary magazine keeps feeding smooth and reliable. This is a rifle for the shooter who knows exactly what they want: precision, purpose-built reliability, and the velocity advantage of 17 WSM in semi-auto form. It's not a jack-of-all-trades; it's a specialist's tool.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the Savage A17 different from other semi-auto rimfire rifles?

The A17 is purpose-built for 17 WSM and 17 HMR from the action up. Most semi-auto rimfire rifles are designed around 22 LR and adapted for other cartridges. The delayed-blowback action in the A17 is specifically engineered for the pressure and velocity characteristics of 17 WSM, which means more reliable feeding, cycling, and accuracy than you'd get from a platform designed for a different cartridge.

Is the A17 good for hunting and varmint shooting?

Yes. The 17 WSM delivers more velocity and energy than standard rimfire rounds, making it suitable for small-game hunting and varmint control. The purpose-built action and match-grade barrel support that performance advantage. The thumbhole stock and adjustable AccuTrigger help you shoot precisely at distance, which matters when you're after accuracy with a smaller cartridge.

Can I adjust the trigger on this rifle?

Yes. The Savage AccuTrigger is user-adjustable, allowing you to set the break weight to your preference.

What magazine comes with the A17?

The rifle includes an 8-round rotary magazine designed for 17 WSM.
