The Savage Arms A17 Target is a 17 HMR semi-auto rifle built for shooters who want a modern, purpose-built small-caliber platform. This rifle combines Savage's proven delayed blowback action with a grey laminate thumbhole stock designed for stability and control—whether you're working on accuracy at the range, managing varmints, or simply enjoying the low-recoil nature of 17 HMR centerfire shooting. The 22-inch barrel and 41.5-inch overall length strike a practical balance between handling and velocity, while the 10-round capacity keeps you in the action without constant reloads.

The A17 Target is engineered for reliability and precision. Savage fitted it with a button-rifled barrel (1:9 twist), a hard-chromed bolt with dual controlled round feed, and a case-hardened receiver—the kind of mechanical fundamentals that separate a rifle built to perform from one that merely looks the part. The satin black barrel finish and matte grey laminate stock are both practical and durable, holding up to field use and temperature swings without the fuss of high-maintenance finishes.

This is a right-handed rifle that appeals to target shooters, small-game hunters, and anyone looking to explore what 17 HMR can do with a semi-auto platform. The thumbhole stock geometry encourages a consistent cheek weld and controlled recoil impulse, making it easier to shoot the gun accurately and stay on target between shots. If you've been shooting bolt-action 17 HMRs and want the ease of semi-auto operation, or you're stepping into centerfire rimfire for the first time, the A17 Target delivers honest, no-nonsense performance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is 17 HMR and what can I hunt with it?

17 HMR (17 Hornady Magnum Rimfire) is a centerfire rimfire cartridge known for its flat trajectory, minimal recoil, and excellent accuracy at modest ranges. It's popular for varmint control, small-game hunting, and target work. Because it's a rimfire round, it's economical to shoot and generates very little recoil, making it ideal for shooters who want centerfire ballistics without the heavy kick of larger calibers.

Does the A17 Target come with a scope or rail system?

The specifications provided do not include information about an integrated optics rail or included scope. Contact Bosque Outdoors directly to confirm what optics mounting system is standard on this model and whether any accessories are bundled.

What makes the thumbhole stock useful for target shooting?

The thumbhole design supports a high, consistent cheek weld and allows your firing hand and arm to anchor more naturally to the stock. This geometry reduces the influence of small hand movements on aim point and helps manage the recoil impulse through a more stable hold, which is why target-oriented rifles often feature this stock style.

Is the A17 Target suitable for left-handed shooters?

This is a right-handed rifle. Left-handed shooters should verify whether Savage offers a left-hand variant or consider whether the right-hand configuration will work for your shooting style.
