The Savage 555 Sporting over/under compact 20-gauge shotgun brings genuine competition-grade features to the clay target game without the typical price tag. Built on a lightweight aluminum alloy receiver reinforced with a steel insert at the breech, this compact shotgun is engineered for shooters who want balance between handling speed and durability. The 26-inch ported barrels reduce felt recoil, and the adjustable cheek riser on the Turkish walnut stock lets you dial in the perfect fit for any face and frame—a feature that really matters when you're shooting 100 targets in a row.

If you shoot sporting clays or trap with any regularity, the 555 Sporting gives you the sighting gear that counts: a raised ventilated rib with mid-bead rear sight and fiberoptic front sight to lock onto your targets fast. The single selective mechanical trigger fires cleanly, and the manual extractor keeps things simple and reliable. Chrome-lined barrels handle heavy shooting schedules without fouling, and the package includes five extended chokes (Full, Improved Modified, Modified, Improved Cylinder, and Cylinder) so you can match your shot pattern to the course.

The compact 20-gauge is lighter and faster-handling than a 12, and the 14.5-inch length of pull makes it feel right for a broad range of shooters. If you're stepping into competitive clay shooting or looking for a working shotgun that doesn't beat you up, the 555 Sporting is where smart shooters look first.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Savage 555 Sporting good for clay target shooting?

Yes. The shotgun is purpose-built for sporting clays and trap with features like the raised ventilated rib, mid-bead and fiberoptic sight system, adjustable cheek riser, and ported barrels designed to reduce recoil. The five extended chokes included give you the versatility to handle different shooting courses and distances.

What's the length of pull, and can I adjust it?

The stock comes set at 14.5 inches length of pull. The adjustable cheek riser allows you to dial in the fit for your specific face and frame, but the length of pull itself is not adjustable—it is a fixed measurement.

What chokes come with the 555 Sporting?

The shotgun includes five extended chokes: Full, Improved Modified, Modified, Improved Cylinder, and Cylinder. These cover most common shooting scenarios and distances on clay courses.

Why are the barrels ported, and does that reduce recoil?

The 26-inch ported barrels are designed to reduce felt recoil, which matters during long shooting sessions. This is especially useful in the compact 20-gauge format, where every bit of shooter comfort contributes to better accuracy and faster target acquisition.
