The Savage 555 Sporting Over/Under Shotgun in .410 gauge is a competition-ready shotgun built for shooters serious about clays, trap, and skeet. The 28" barrel model combines lightweight engineering with field-proven design—a rare combination in .410 over/unders that doesn't sacrifice durability for carry weight. If you're stepping up to organized shooting sports or want a nimble upland gun that handles like a dream, this is the kind of shotgun that rewards practice with consistent performance.

At the heart of the 555 Sporting is a scaled aluminum alloy receiver reinforced with a steel breech insert. That design philosophy means you get strength where it matters and weight savings where they help—the gun tips the scales at just 5.8 lbs. The ported barrels further manage recoil, making longer shooting sessions more comfortable without eating into your accuracy. Turkish walnut furniture and satin finishes give it a working-gun aesthetic that looks as good in the truck as it does on the range.

Sight picture matters in competitive shooting, and Savage equipped the 555 Sporting with a raised ventilated rib, mid-bead rear sight, and a fiberoptic front sight to help you find and hold your target. The adjustable comb stock accommodates different shooter frames and eye positions—an often-overlooked feature that makes the difference between a gun that fits and one you have to wrestle with. You also get the adjustability you need: the stock length is locked at 14.5", and you can swap between five extended choke tubes (Full, Improved Modified, Modified, Improved Cylinder, Cylinder) to dial in patterns for everything from tight trap to open-field upland work.

The single selective mechanical trigger fires clean and crisp at a consistent 5 lb pull, and the tang-mounted manual safety keeps things simple and fast. Chrome-lined barrels mean this gun is built to last through thousands of rounds of hard use.

Frequently Asked Questions

What chokes come with the Savage 555 Sporting .410?

The gun ships with five extended choke tubes: Full, Improved Modified, Modified, Improved Cylinder, and Cylinder. They're compatible with Beretta/Benelli Mobil choke systems, giving you options for different shooting situations.

Is the adjustable comb easy to use?

Yes—the Turkish walnut stock features an adjustable comb to accommodate shooters of different frame sizes and eye positions. This is especially useful in competitive shooting where cheek weld consistency affects accuracy.

How much does the Savage 555 Sporting .410 weigh?

The gun weighs 5.8 lbs, making it one of the lighter .410 over/unders. The lightweight aluminum alloy receiver scaled to the .410 gauge is the main reason, without sacrificing the steel reinforcement at the breech where strength is critical.

What's the stock pull length?

The stock pull length is 14.5". While not adjustable in length, the adjustable comb allows you to fine-tune fit for your specific shooting position and frame.

Can I use this gun for hunting?

The 555 Sporting is designed primarily for competitive clay shooting (trap, skeet, and sporting clays), but its design—light handling, ported barrels, and .410 gauge—makes it suitable for upland hunting as well. The 3" chamber and choke versatility give you flexibility in the field.
