The Rock Island Armory VR80 Tactical is a gas-operated semi-automatic 12 gauge shotgun built for shooters who want AR-15 ergonomics and controls without learning a new manual of arms. Whether you're running three-gun competition, hunting, or putting rounds downrange at the range, the VR80 delivers familiar controls and reliable function in a magazine-fed platform that breaks the mold for modern shotgun design.

Built from 7075 T6 aluminum upper and lower receivers, the VR80 Tactical is constructed to handle serious use. The 20-inch contoured barrel pairs with adjustable flip-up front and rear sights, while the thumb hole stock and black anodized finish give it a distinctly tactical appearance. Magazine-fed operation with a 5+1 round capacity handles both 2¾" and 3" shells, so you're not locked into one ammunition type—flexibility matters when you're stocking your safe or competing.

The VR80 stands out because it doesn't force you to relearn shotgun manipulation if you're already familiar with the AR platform. The controls layout is intuitive to anyone who's run a rifle, and that familiarity translates to faster transitions and fewer fumbles when it counts. At 8.27 pounds unloaded, it's manageable for extended range sessions or field work, and the mobile choke system lets you tune the spread to your load and distance—useful whether you're patterning buckshot or optimizing birdshot performance.

For the price, the VR80 Tactical offers capability and versatility that's hard to match in the semi-automatic, magazine-fed shotgun space. It's a genuine alternative to more expensive platforms, built on the principle that effective shotgun performance doesn't require a premium price tag.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the VR80 cycle both 2¾" and 3" shells?

Yes. The VR80 Tactical is designed to handle both 2¾" and 3" shotgun shells, giving you flexibility in ammunition selection and load options.

How is the VR80 different from other semi-automatic shotguns?

The VR80 uses AR-15 style controls and ergonomics, so if you're familiar with the rifle platform, you'll move through the shotgun's manual of arms without retraining. It's magazine-fed rather than tube-fed, and the aluminum construction keeps weight down while maintaining durability. That combination of familiar controls, magazine operation, and price point sets it apart in the modern shotgun space.

What sights come with the VR80?

The VR80 Tactical ships with flip-up front and rear sights, allowing for rapid target acquisition and quick sight changes if needed.

What's the magazine capacity?

The VR80 has a 5+1 round capacity—five rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber—when loaded with either 2¾" or 3" shells.
