The Remington 783 .308 Win bolt-action rifle pairs proven accuracy fundamentals with a compact, handy 16.5" barrel and modern FDE finish—a practical choice for hunters and shooters who value balance between performance and portability. This .308 combines Remington's dual pillar bedded synthetic stock with a crisp CrossFire trigger and detachable steel box magazine, delivering reliable, repeatable performance whether you're hunting medium game or working target loads at the range.
Built on a heavy carbon steel barrel, the 783 in .308 Winchester is engineered for accuracy without the weight penalty of a true bench-rest setup. The flat dark earth synthetic stock resists weather and handling wear, while the matte blue barrel finish and overall 36 1/8" length make this rifle equally at home in truck racks, blinds, or field conditions. At 8 pounds, it's light enough to carry all day but substantial enough to manage .308 recoil and group shots consistently.
The 10:1 twist rate is optimized for the .308 Win cartridge and will stabilize the wide range of factory and handload projectiles that caliber shooters rely on. With a 13 3/8" length of pull, 1 5/8" comb drop, and 1" heel drop, the stock geometry suits most shooters from average to longer-armed frames, and the design leaves room for optic mounting and accessories without compromise.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this rifle suitable for hunting medium-sized game?
Yes. The .308 Winchester is a proven medium-game cartridge with a wide selection of hunting ammunition available. The 16.5" barrel is compact enough for practical hunting carry, and the accuracy-oriented design will help you place shots where they count.
Will this rifle work with standard .308 Win ammunition and reloads?
Yes. The 1:10" twist rate is optimized for .308 Winchester and will stabilize the range of factory loads and handloads commonly used in that caliber.
Can I mount a scope or other optics on this rifle?
Yes. The receiver is drilled and tapped for standard Remington 700-pattern bases, which are widely available. You'll want to verify base and ring compatibility with your chosen scope or optic before purchase.
What is the magazine capacity and is it removable?
The rifle comes with a 4-round detachable steel box magazine, which allows you to quickly change magazines or unload the rifle without cycling rounds individually through the chamber.
