The Remington 700 in .308 Winchester with a 24" barrel is the rifle that set the standard for American bolt-action hunting and long-range shooting. This particular configuration—featuring a silver finish and solid-steel receiver—delivers the accuracy and reliability that has made the 700 a favorite among hunters, competition shooters, and marksmen for decades. Whether you're glassing from a treestand, taking a long-range shot across a canyon, or punching paper at the range, the .308 Win chambering offers a balanced mix of power, recoil, and ballistic performance that works across most North American game and target applications.

Built around a receiver machined from solid-steel bar stock, the 700 provides the uniformity and strength that tight tolerances demand. The cylindrical receiver design creates a stable bedding platform in the stock, which directly translates to shot-to-shot consistency. Remington's three-rings-of-steel design—where the recessed bolt face locks inside the counter-bored breech, surrounded by the receiver—encloses the cartridge case head for considerable strength and safety. The integral extractor, seated uniformly in a groove inside the bolt face, supports the cartridge head without wobble, reducing variables that hurt accuracy.

The 24" barrel strikes a practical balance: long enough to wring velocity and maintain a consistent sight radius, short enough to stay maneuverable in brush or from a vehicle. This model's silver finish resists corrosion while maintaining the traditional look hunters expect. The 700's reputation rests on consistent performance, straightforward operation, and accuracy out of the box—qualities that have kept it relevant across generations of shooters. If you're building a hunting rifle, setting up a long-range platform, or simply want a proven, field-tested bolt gun in America's most versatile hunting cartridge, the Remington 700 .308 remains a no-nonsense choice.
