The Mossberg Shockwave 12 gauge is a distinctive take on the modern shotgun—a compact, truck-friendly firearm that splits the difference between a traditional shotgun and a pistol-grip home-defense tool. This FDE (Flat Dark Earth) Model 50653 brings a tactical aesthetic to a platform designed for serious close-quarters work, whether you're setting up home defense, running a specialized course, or just want something portable that won't quit.
What makes the Shockwave practical is its 14.375-inch heavy-walled barrel and 26.37-inch overall length—short enough to maneuver indoors or stash in tight spaces, but long enough to stay legal and predictable. The 12 gauge delivers real stopping power with a 3-inch chamber and 6-round capacity, loaded via tube magazine. Mossberg's Raptor Grip on the forend gives you a positive hold even when things get wet or messy, and the heavy-walled barrel is built to handle repeated shooting without flex. Cylinder bore choke means no choke tube swaps—it shoots the same no matter what load you're running. The bead sight keeps things simple and fast for defensive shooting.
The Cerakote FDE finish on the barrel resists corrosion and looks right at home in a modern tactical setup. At 5.3 pounds, it's manageable for extended handling but still has enough mass to manage 12 gauge recoil and stay on target. This isn't a traditional hunting shotgun—it's purpose-built for defense and specialized applications where a shorter, more controllable platform makes sense.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Mossberg Shockwave used for?
The Shockwave is designed as a home-defense and specialized-application shotgun. Its short barrel and compact overall length make it ideal for maneuvering in confined spaces, vehicle storage, or controlled tactical environments. The heavy-walled barrel and 12 gauge power deliver serious stopping capability at close range.
Can you hunt with a Mossberg Shockwave 12 gauge?
While the Shockwave is engineered primarily for defense and specialized use rather than field hunting, its 12 gauge power and cylinder bore choke do function as a shotgun. Many owners use it for specialized hunting applications where a short, compact platform is advantageous. Check your local hunting regulations, as some areas have specific barrel-length requirements.
What does the Raptor Grip forend do?
The Raptor Grip forend provides a textured, positive grip point on the shotgun—especially valuable when handling is fast, the gun is wet, or you're wearing gloves. The integrated strap gives you extra control and security, helping keep the shotgun stable during defensive or high-stress shooting.
Is the 14.375-inch barrel short enough for close-quarters use?
Yes. At 14.375 inches with an overall length of 26.37 inches, the Shockwave is significantly more compact than a traditional shotgun, making it easier to store and maneuver in tight spaces—critical features for home defense and specialized applications. The heavy-walled construction ensures the shorter barrel maintains power and durability.
