The Mossberg 940 Pro 12 gauge shotgun is a reliable, low-maintenance semi-automatic built for hunters and sport shooters who want a gun that runs hard and cleans up easy. The 940 Pro pairs a durable gas-operated system engineered to run 1500 rounds between cleanings with a 28-inch barrel and 4+1 capacity—enough for most upland, waterfowl, and clay disciplines without being overweight. The synthetic stock and forend are textured for a solid grip in wet conditions, and the front fiber optic sight gives you a dependable sight picture whether you're in the field or on the range.

What sets the 940 Pro apart is its attention to durability in the details. The gas piston, magazine tube, hammer, and sear are all nickel boron-coated to resist corrosion, so it'll keep functioning even after season-long use in harsh weather. The enlarged and beveled loading port and elongated elevator smooth out the feeding cycle, reducing the chance of hitches when you need it most. The synthetic stock features 1.25 inches of length-of-pull adjustment, so you can dial in a comfortable fit whether you're wearing a t-shirt or heavy brush gear.

The 940 Pro won't win awards for aesthetics, but it's honest—engineered for shooters who value function, durability, and a gun that earns its keep in the truck bed or on the stand. At its price point, it's a smart choice for someone stepping into semi-automatic shotguns or upgrading from an aging pump gun.

Is the Mossberg 940 Pro good for hunting waterfowl and upland birds?

Yes. The 28-inch barrel and 4+1 capacity make it well-suited for waterfowl and upland hunting. The gas system is designed for reliable cycling and its corrosion-resistant internals hold up well in wet, brushy conditions. The front fiber optic sight is helpful for quick target acquisition in the field.

How often do I need to clean the 940 Pro?

The gas system is engineered to run approximately 1500 rounds between cleanings, which is solid for a semi-automatic shotgun. Regular maintenance will extend the life of all components, especially the nickel boron-coated internals.
