The LSI Howa M1500 Walnut Hunter is a 6.5 PRC bolt-action rifle built for hunters and shooters who want a purpose-built long-range hunting platform without the AR15 complexity. Howa's reputation for accuracy and reliability runs deep—the M1500 platform is the working rifle of choice for backcountry hunters, precision competitors, and anyone serious about consistent performance at distance. The 6.5 PRC cartridge delivers what you need: inherent accuracy, good ballistics, manageable recoil, and proven game-dropping energy. This particular configuration pairs that proven action with a classic Monte Carlo walnut stock and a 24-inch barrel, the sweet spot for velocity and handling in the field.

The rifle comes drilled and tapped for optics, threaded for a suppressor or muzzle device, and includes sling swivel studs—you can glass and shoot without buying extras. The HACT trigger is crisp and clean, and Howa backs the M1500 with a sub-MOA accuracy guarantee. At 7.4 pounds with a hinged floor plate and 3+1 capacity, it's lean enough to pack into the mountains but rigid enough to trust at the bench. Three-position safety, blue finish, and a black rubber recoil pad round out a no-frills, hard-use hunter.

Whether you're setting up for elk country, building a precision rifle, or simply want a rifle that'll shoot and never ask questions, the M1500 Walnut Hunter in 6.5 PRC is a known quantity. This is the kind of rifle that's been proven in the field season after season, and Howa's track record speaks for itself.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between the 6.5 PRC and other 6.5 calibers, and is it good for hunting?

The 6.5 PRC (Precision Rifle Cartridge) is a modern design built from the ground up for long-range accuracy. It delivers the ballistic performance hunters and shooters expect from a 6.5—inherent accuracy, flat trajectory, good velocity, and effective terminal performance on game—in a package that works well in short-action rifles like the M1500 Walnut Hunter.

Do I need to buy a scope separately?

Yes. The rifle comes drilled and tapped so you can mount your choice of scope, but no optic is included. You'll also want to pick up rings and a mount to fit your preferred scope.

Can I suppress or add a muzzle device to this rifle?

Yes. The barrel is threaded 5/8x24, the standard threading for suppressors and muzzle devices in 6.5 PRC and similar cartridges. You can thread on a suppressor, brake, flash hider, or whatever suits your needs.

Is the M1500 Walnut Hunter a good rifle for a beginner or does it require gunsmithing?

The M1500 is a straightforward, bolt-action hunting rifle that shoots out of the box. No gunsmithing required. It's accurate and reliable, and the HACT trigger is clean from the factory. If you're new to rifles, just add a scope, learn the manual of arms, and you're ready to hunt or shoot.
