The Howa Standard Hunter .308 Win Walnut Rifle (Model HWH308TS) is a classic bolt-action rifle built for hunters who value tradition, reliability, and accuracy. Chambered in .308 Winchester—one of the most versatile and effective hunting cartridges ever developed—this rifle combines a time-tested action with a handsome walnut stock and modern features that make it equally at home in the field or at the range. At 7.2 lbs and 41.5 inches overall, it balances portability with shootability, making it a natural choice for deer hunters, elk stalkers, and riflemen who demand a rifle that won't quit.

The heart of the HWH308TS is Howa's M1500 bolt-action platform, known across the industry for sub-MOA accuracy potential and proven dependability. The rifle ships with a 22-inch barrel threaded 5/8x24 (ready for a suppressor or muzzle brake), drilled and tapped for optics, and finished in stainless steel for durability in harsh conditions. The three-position safety is intuitive, the HACT trigger delivers a clean break, and the hinged floor plate makes ammunition changes and cleaning straightforward.

The Monte Carlo walnut stock isn't just pretty—it's functional. Sling swivel studs come standard, so you can mount a hunting sling immediately, and the black rubber recoil pad absorbs .308 Winchester's signature kick. With a 4+1 magazine capacity and Howa's sub-MOA guarantee backing your purchase, this is a rifle you can trust to deliver when it matters most.

Whether you're a first-time bolt-action buyer or an experienced hunter looking for an affordable, no-nonsense rifle that handles real-world hunting duties, the Howa Standard Hunter delivers without breaking the bank or your shoulder.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this rifle need a scope, or does it come with sights?

The HWH308TS ships without iron sights; the receiver is drilled and tapped for scope mounting. Most hunters pair it with a quality rifle scope suited to their intended range and game. Many set them up for 100-300 yard hunting, though the .308 Winchester and Howa's accuracy platform support longer-range work with proper optics and ammunition selection.

Can I mount a suppressor on the Howa Standard Hunter?

Yes. The barrel is threaded 5/8x24, the standard threading for .308 Winchester suppressors and muzzle devices. You can attach a suppressor, muzzle brake, or other compatible device, subject to all local, state, and federal laws governing suppressors in your jurisdiction.

What does Howa's sub-MOA guarantee mean?

Howa guarantees that the rifle will shoot groups of one inch or smaller at 100 yards when fired from a rest with quality ammunition. This is a mark of the platform's precision engineering and manufacturing quality.

Is this rifle good for hunting deer and larger game?

The .308 Winchester is a proven, versatile hunting cartridge for deer, elk, and other mid- to large-game species across North America. At 7.2 lbs, the HWH308TS is light enough to carry all day in the field but substantial enough to manage recoil and deliver consistent accuracy. The walnut stock and classic profile appeal to hunters who value traditional rifle handling alongside modern materials and threaded-barrel capability.
