The Heritage Mfg Rough Rider 4.75" .22LR/.22 Mag small bore revolver is a single-action six-shooter built for plinking, small game, and casual range work. This is a no-frills, straightforward revolver that trades modern polymer and rails for old-school charm and honest simplicity—a solid choice if you want an affordable .22 that doesn't pretend to be something it isn't. The case-hardened finish gives it a distinctive, weathered appearance that actually serves a purpose: it's designed to stand up to outdoor use without constant maintenance.

The dual-caliber cylinder accepts both .22 Long Rifle and .22 Magnum, so you can practice affordably with standard .22 LR or step up to the heavier punch of .22 Mag for hunting or higher-velocity shooting. The 4.75-inch steel barrel pairs with an aluminum alloy frame, keeping weight down to just 33.4 ounces—light enough to carry comfortably on a trail or pack into a hunting bag. Laminate camo grips provide a secure hold and won't absorb water like wood or fancy finishes.

Sights are simple: a fixed open notch at the rear, paired with a front sight for quick target acquisition. The 6-pound trigger pull is honest and manageable. This isn't a precision tool; it's a utility revolver, and it's priced and built accordingly. If you're looking for a budget-friendly .22 for farm work, backyard plinking, or introducing someone to single-action revolvers without spending big money, the Rough Rider delivers exactly what it promises.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I shoot both .22 LR and .22 Magnum in the same cylinder?

Yes. The Rough Rider's cylinder is designed to fire both .22 Long Rifle and .22 Magnum ammunition. This dual-caliber flexibility lets you choose lighter, cheaper .22 LR for practice or heavier .22 Mag loads for hunting or higher-velocity shooting.

Is this a good revolver for small game hunting?

The .22 Magnum option makes it viable for small game like rabbits and squirrels, especially with the 4.75-inch barrel. However, this is a basic utility revolver, not a precision hunting gun—success depends on shot placement and your skill with open sights.

How often do I need to maintain this case-hardened finish?

The case-hardened finish is intentionally designed for low maintenance, especially if you're using it outdoors regularly. It's more forgiving than traditional blued steel and won't demand constant oil and polishing to stay functional.
