The Heritage Mfg Rough Rider 6.5" revolver in .22 LR and .22 Magnum is a single-action rimfire built for shooters who want honest, affordable fun at the range or in the field. With its case-hardened frame and classic lines, this small-bore revolver splits the difference between nostalgia and genuine utility—perfect for plinking, small-game hunting, or introducing new shooters to wheelguns without the recoil or expense of centerfire calibers. At 33.4 ounces and 11.785 inches long, it handles like a proper revolver, not a toy.

Dual caliber capability is the Rough Rider's calling card. The same cylinder chambers both .22 LR and .22 Magnum, letting you choose ammo based on range distance, target size, or what you have on hand. Six-round capacity keeps you in the fight. The 6.5-inch steel barrel groups well for a budget revolver, and the open fixed rear sight supports practical accuracy at typical rimfire distances. Cocobolo grips provide a traditional feel and solid purchase.

Build quality reflects Heritage's no-nonsense approach: a steel cylinder and barrel handled by an aluminum-alloy frame with case-hardened finish. That finish wasn't a marketing afterthought—it's designed to stand up to outdoor use and knock around without requiring constant babying. Low-maintenance, robust, and honest. The six-pound trigger breaks cleanly for a single-action gun, making it forgiving for newer shooters while still suitable for deliberate work.

This is the revolver for hunters and shooters who don't need laser rangefinders and Picatinny rails to have a good day outside. It's a throwback that actually works.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I shoot both .22 LR and .22 Magnum without any changes?

Yes. The Rough Rider cylinder accepts both cartridges, so you can switch between .22 LR and .22 Magnum without swapping cylinders or parts. Load whichever round your situation calls for.

What's the sight setup on this revolver?

It features an open fixed rear notch sight—no adjustments, no extra features. It's simple, reliable, and good enough for rimfire work at reasonable distances. If you want to add optics, you'll need to work with a gunsmith.

Is this a good first revolver for someone new to shooting?

Yes, it's a solid beginner gun. The .22 LR cartridge has minimal recoil, the single-action trigger is forgiving, and the size is manageable for most shooters. It'll teach proper grip and trigger control without intimidation.

What does the case-hardened finish mean for maintenance?

The case-hardened finish is tough and designed to resist wear from outdoor use. It requires standard revolver maintenance—keep it dry and lubricated—but you don't need to baby it. It handles hard use better than a standard blued finish would.
