The Henry Wildlife Edition .45-70 lever action rifle is built for hunters and shooters who respect classic American gunmaking paired with modern hunting practicality. This 22-inch-barreled rifle chambers the proven .45-70 Government cartridge—a cartridge with deep roots in North American hunting and the power to handle big game with authority. The octagon blued steel barrel and polished hardened brass receiver give the Wildlife Edition a character you won't find in modern tactical platforms; it's a rifle that looks as good standing in a cabin as it does in the field.

The action is Henry's smooth lever mechanism with a large loop lever and side loading gate, making feeding and unloading intuitive and quick. A 4-round capacity keeps things simple without sacrificing practical firepower for most hunting scenarios. The American walnut stock and brass furniture—including the front bead sight and adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight with diamond insert—give the rifle a refined, traditional feel. The receiver is drilled and tapped for scope mounting (Weaver 63B), so you can add optics without compromising the rifle's classic lines if your hunting demands it.

The real story here is versatility. Whether you're after whitetail, elk, or just putting rounds downrange at distance, the .45-70's ballistics and the rifle's 8.1-pound handling make it a capable hunting partner. The bear and moose engraving on the receiver and the transfer bar safety round out a rifle that works as hard as it looks.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the effective range of the .45-70 for hunting?

The .45-70 Government is a capable cartridge for hunting medium to large game. Its power and bullet options make it effective at moderate ranges, though exact effective distance depends on your ammunition choice, skill, and target. This rifle's sighting system and scope-ready receiver support flexible setup options.

Can I mount a scope on the Henry Wildlife Edition .45-70?

Yes. The receiver is drilled and tapped for Weaver 63B scope mounts, so you can add optics if you choose. The rifle ships with traditional open sights (buckhorn rear and brass bead front), so scope mounting is optional.

Is this rifle good for left-handed shooters?

The Henry Wildlife Edition is a lever action designed with right-hand operation. The side loading gate and large loop lever are optimized for right-hand use.

What's included with the rifle?

The rifle comes with the sling swivel studs installed, ready for a sling. Open sights are standard; scope mount and optics are sold separately if desired.
