The Colt 1911 Comp Series 70 in 9mm is a modern take on the most iconic pistol platform in American firearms history. Built on the legendary 1911 design, this stainless steel semi-auto gives you the ergonomics, single-action trigger, and manual safety controls that have made the 1911 the go-to choice for competitive shooters, duty carry, and serious sport shooters for over a century. The 9mm chambering and 9+1 round capacity offer a practical balance of firepower and controllability, while the stainless steel construction delivers corrosion resistance and a clean, professional appearance that works equally well at the range or in the safe.

The Comp Series 70 name signals Colt's commitment to proven, time-tested mechanics. The Series 70-style action pairs a National Match barrel with a dual recoil spring system—a combination engineered to handle the demands of both precision shooting and everyday use. That match-grade barrel isn't marketing fluff; it directly supports the kind of accuracy expectations serious 1911 shooters have earned over decades. The 3-hole aluminum trigger gives you a crisp, predictable break, while the extended thumb safety and beavertail grip—fitted with G10 checkered grips featuring a scallop—ensure confident control and prevent hammer bite even during hard training sessions.

Sights matter when you need to land shots, and Colt equipped this pistol with Novak optics on the front (red fiber optic) and rear (adjustable). Fiber optics gather ambient light naturally, making sight acquisition faster in variable light than conventional three-dot setups, and the rear adjustability lets you dial in your zero on your terms. The 5-inch barrel and 8.5-inch overall length keep the gun compact enough for practical carry while maintaining the sight radius and velocity that 1911 shooters expect. At 36 ounces, the all-steel build absorbs recoil effectively and contributes to that smooth, predictable handling that separates the 1911 from lightweight polymer designs.

Whether you're a competitive shooter running steel matches, a 1911 purist who shoots 9mm for economy and softer recoil, or someone who simply refuses to compromise on control and ergonomics, the Colt 1911 Comp Series 70 delivers the specifications and proven design language that serious shooters have relied on for generations.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is included with this pistol?

The Colt 1911 Comp Series 70 comes with spare sight fibers, allowing you to replace fiber optic elements if they become damaged or if you want to experiment with different sight picture colors.

Is the rear sight adjustable?

Yes. The Novak adjustable rear sight allows you to dial in your zero and make windage or elevation adjustments to match your shooting style and ammunition.

What's the advantage of fiber optic sights on a 1911?

The Novak fiber optic front sight gathers ambient light passively, making the sight picture brighter and faster to acquire than traditional three-dot sights, especially in variable lighting conditions. Combined with the adjustable rear sight, this setup gives you both speed and precision.

Is the 1911 platform suitable for new shooters?

The 1911 design is fundamentally sound and has trained millions of shooters over more than a century. The manual safety, single-action trigger, and intuitive controls are straightforward once you understand the platform basics. That said, if you're completely new to firearms, proper instruction and practice are always recommended regardless of the gun you choose.
