Barrel Description:
20" Button-Rifled Free-Floating

The Winchester XPR SR .243 Winchester is a modern hunting rifle built for shooters who demand both accuracy and versatility in the field. This bolt-action rifle combines Winchester's time-tested XPR platform with a threaded barrel, giving you the flexibility to run a suppressor, muzzle brake, or shoot it traditionally—your choice depending on your hunt, your ears, and your neighbors. The .243 Winchester cartridge remains a favorite for varmint hunters, smaller game, and shooters who want a flat-shooting round with manageable recoil, making this rifle an excellent choice for hunters across the country.

At its core is Winchester's proven three-lever MOA trigger system, a design refined across generations of the legendary Model 70. That trigger, paired with a free-floating button-rifled barrel and recessed target crown, delivers the accuracy you need when it counts. The steel receiver is drilled and tapped for scope mounts, so you can glass up your setup without gunsmithing. The black composite stock keeps things light and durable, while the Inflex Technology recoil pad absorbs punishment—especially useful if you opt for a muzzle brake to manage the rifle's natural recoil.

The 5/8 x 24 threaded barrel is the standout here. If you're in a state or region where suppressors are legal and you've got your paperwork in order, threading on a can will let you hunt quieter, reduce flinch, and keep peace with landowners and neighbors. The same threading also accepts a quality muzzle brake if recoil control is your priority. A sling swivel stud comes factory-installed, so you're ready to get into the field without extra stops at the bench.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a suppressor on the Winchester XPR SR .243?

Yes. The barrel is threaded 5/8 x 24, the standard thread pitch for most .243 suppressors. You'll need to verify that suppressors are legal in your state and that you have the appropriate federal paperwork (Form 1 or Form 4 registered with the ATF) before attaching one.

What scope bases or rings do I need?

The receiver is drilled and tapped for standard scope mounts. You'll want to verify the exact hole spacing and mounting system with Winchester or your gunsmith, then select bases and rings that match your scope and those specifications.

Is this rifle good for varmint hunting?

The .243 Winchester is a proven varmint cartridge, and the XPR SR's free-floating barrel, accurate trigger, and recessed target crown make it well-suited to that role. The threaded barrel also opens up the option to run a suppressor for quieter shooting, which is valued by many varmint hunters.

What comes installed on the rifle?

The rifle ships with a sling swivel stud already installed. You'll need to add a scope and rings, and a sling if desired. The receiver is ready for scope base installation.
