The Winchester XPR Sporter in 400 Legend is a modern hunting rifle built for shooters who want accuracy without the fuss. Winchester's XPR line has earned a solid reputation for delivering sub-MOA performance at a reasonable price point, and the Sporter model brings that same precision engineering in a lighter, more versatile package. The 400 Legend—one of Winchester's newer SHOT Show calibers—offers an interesting middle ground for hunters seeking effective medium-range performance in a compact, ergonomic platform.

What makes this rifle stand out is attention to the fundamentals. The free-floated, button-rifled barrel is machined with a recessed target crown to protect accuracy, while the M.O.A. trigger system breaks clean and predictable—exactly what you need when the moment matters. The bolt is nickel-Teflon coated for smooth, reliable cycling in variable conditions, and the entire receiver is machined from solid steel for durability. A two-position thumb safety keeps things secure, and the detachable box magazine makes feeding rounds quick and field-stripping straightforward.

The stock is where hunters will feel the value. Grade 1 walnut with crisp checkering on the grip and fore-end gives the XPR a classic, finished look, while the flattened fore-end profile actually improves stability when shooting from a bench or over sandbags—practical design, not just aesthetics. Perma-cote matte black metal finish cuts glare and resists corrosion, and Winchester's Inflex recoil pad is engineered to redirect energy downward, reducing felt recoil and improving follow-up shot control. The steel recoil lug ties everything together for consistent performance.

The 400 Legend is a relatively new cartridge, so ammunition availability is something to verify before committing, but if you're looking for a rifle that combines Winchester's proven XPR accuracy platform with smart ergonomics and a walnut stock, this Sporter is worth a close look.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the 400 Legend cartridge, and what is it designed for?

The 400 Legend is one of Winchester's modern SHOT Show calibers. It represents a relatively new option in the rifle cartridge lineup, so you'll want to confirm ammunition availability in your area before purchase. It's designed as a medium-range hunting option.

Is the XPR Sporter accurate enough for long-range shooting?

The XPR line is known for sub-MOA accuracy thanks to its free-floated, button-rifled barrel with a recessed target crown and M.O.A. trigger system. The precision foundation is there, though effective range will depend on the 400 Legend's ballistics and your skill level.

Can I use this rifle from a bench rest?

Yes. The flattened fore-end profile is specifically designed to improve stability when shooting from sandbags or a bench rest, making it a practical choice for range work or load development.

What comes with the rifle?

The rifle includes the detachable box magazine. For specific information about scope mounts, rings, or other accessories, contact Bosque Outdoors directly.
