The Winchester Model 1886 Short Rifle in 45-70 Government is a modern reproduction of one of lever-action history's most respected designs. Built on a steel receiver with polished blued finish and a 24-inch round barrel, this carbine delivers the stopping power and reliability that made the original 1886 a legend in the field. The straight-grip Grade I walnut stock with carbine-style forearm feels at home in timber or across open country—balanced, quick-handling, and built for hunters who appreciate a rifle that does one job exceptionally well.
The 45-70 Government chambering brings serious capability to medium and heavy game, with the full-length magazine tube feeding eight rounds through smooth lever action. The saddle ring, drilled and tapped for receiver mounts, preserves the classic profile while letting you mount optics the way modern hunting demands. Iron sights—a carbine ladder-style rear and blade front—are factory-installed and field-proven, giving you a complete hunting rifle straight from the box.
Winchester built the Model 1886 to work like no other lever-action: the receiver and barrel are polished and finished to a standard that reflects real craftsmanship. Every part contributes to reliable operation in the field, whether you're hunting elk in the mountains or working livestock on rough terrain. This is a gun designed to be used hard and last generations.
