The Winchester Model 70 Extreme Hunter in 270 WSM is a purpose-built rifle for hunters who refuse to compromise on durability or performance. This bolt-action centerfire combines Winchester's legendary Model 70 platform with modern materials and features designed to handle hard hunting in tough country. The 24-inch barrel wears a distinctive Tungsten Cerakote finish that resists corrosion while the receiver matches in the same tough coating—both practical in wet, salt-air, or extreme weather conditions where conventional blued steel falters.

The synthetic stock from Bell and Carlson sets this rifle apart visually and functionally. Its sculpted cheekpiece promotes proper scope alignment and repeatable shooting position, while the TrueTimber VSX camouflage pattern blends into a range of hunting environments. The stock eliminates wood-to-metal shifting, meaning zero drift across seasons and conditions. Winchester's free-floating barrel and M.O.A. Trigger deliver the accuracy hunters expect from a Model 70, while the controlled round feed mechanism with claw extractor ensures reliability when it matters—in the field, on the shot that counts.

The 270 WSM cartridge hits hard at distance and carries enough energy for elk and other large game at extended range. The muzzle brake tames recoil, and the Pachmayr Decelerator pad absorbs what gets through. The three-position safety is instinctive, and the hinged floorplate simplifies loading and cleaning. A recessed target crown protects the muzzle from dings. Everything about this rifle signals seriousness: the jeweled bolt body and knurled bolt handle feel like precision tools, and the sling swivel studs are ready for field use.

Whether you hunt high country mule deer, western elk, or anything in between, the Model 70 Extreme Hunter is built to perform when conditions turn nasty and the hunt gets real.

Frequently Asked Questions

What calibers does the Winchester Model 70 Extreme Hunter come in?

This rifle is chambered in 270 WSM, a potent short-magnum cartridge designed for hunting at distance with authority.

Is the Model 70 Extreme Hunter suitable for long-range hunting?

Yes. The 270 WSM cartridge, free-floating barrel, M.O.A. trigger, and recessed target crown all support accurate shooting at extended range, making it well-suited to hunting large game like elk and mule deer across open terrain.

Why does this rifle have a muzzle brake?

The muzzle brake reduces felt recoil, helping you stay on target during the shot and recover faster for follow-ups if needed. The 270 WSM generates significant recoil, so the brake improves shootability and comfort, especially during practice and hunting seasons.

What does the Tungsten Cerakote finish protect against?

Tungsten Cerakote is a ceramic-based coating that resists corrosion, rust, and wear far better than traditional blued steel. It's ideal for hunting in wet conditions, humid climates, or salt-air environments where conventional finishes break down quickly.

Does the stock have any features to help with shooting position?

Yes. The Bell and Carlson stock includes a sculpted cheekpiece that promotes consistent head position on the rifle, which improves scope alignment and helps you repeat your shooting position from shot to shot.
