The Weatherby Mark V Backcountry 2.0 Carbon in .300 Wby Mag is a left-handed magnum rifle engineered for hunters who refuse to compromise between power and packability. Built on Weatherby's proven Mark V action and paired with a tensioned carbon fiber barrel, this 28-inch rifle delivers the accuracy and velocity serious backcountry hunters demand—without the weight penalty that typically comes with magnum calibers. At just 6.6 lbs, it's built to stay on your shoulder all day and perform when it counts.
The Backcountry 2.0 Carbon owes its feather-light profile to two game-changing components: the Peak 44 Blacktooth carbon fiber stock—the lightest production carbon fiber stock available—and Weatherby's second-generation 3DHEX recoil pad, a 3D-printed innovation that progressively collapses during recoil to stretch out the impulse and tame the .300 Wby Mag's sharp kick. The result is a magnum that shoots like a rifle half its power. A titanium Accubrake ST with 30 symmetrically-spaced ports adds further recoil management and is contoured to blend seamlessly with the barrel profile.
Accuracy is baked in: Weatherby's internal testing with a similar setup achieved a 0.06-inch 3-shot group at 100 yards using factory Select Plus ammunition—a standard that speaks to the barrel system's inherent precision. The bolt features pronounced spiral fluting and a newly-threaded, lightweight aluminum skeletonized handle, both reducing weight and smoothing the action. All steel is sealed in Patriot Brown Cerakote, while the stock wears a complementary brown and green sponge pattern that breaks up your profile in the field. For the left-handed hunter who wants magnum performance in a truly packable rifle, this is the ticket.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this rifle truly left-handed, and what does that mean?
Yes. This is a fully left-handed rifle: the bolt cycles on the left side of the action, the safety is positioned for left-hand operation, and the ejection port is on the left. If you're a left-handed shooter, this rifle is built specifically for your natural shooting mechanics.
How much lighter is the Backcountry 2.0 Carbon compared to a standard .300 Wby Mag rifle?
We don't have weight comparisons to other .300 Wby Mag rifles in our data, but at 6.6 lbs total, this rifle is notably compact and pack-friendly for a magnum. The carbon fiber barrel and Peak 44 Blacktooth stock are the primary weight-reduction technologies—you're looking at a rifle that genuinely hauls easy without sacrificing power or accuracy.
Will the 3DHEX recoil pad and Accubrake actually make the .300 Wby Mag comfortable to shoot?
The 3DHEX pad uses interlocking voids that progressively collapse, stretching the recoil impulse over time to reduce the sharp spike of recoil. Combined with the titanium Accubrake ST (30 symmetrically-spaced ports), the system is designed to tame magnum recoil significantly. Weatherby's internal testing confirmed this setup's accuracy—a 0.06-inch 3-shot group at 100 yards—which speaks to shooter control and repeatability.
What comes with this rifle, and what finish/color is it?
The rifle ships as a complete firearm. The action, barrel, and metal components are finished in Patriot Brown Cerakote. The Peak 44 Blacktooth stock features a complementary brown and green sponge pattern. The bolt, safety, and bolt knob are Graphite Black Cerakote. No optic or other accessories are included.
