The Weatherby Mark V Backcountry 2.0 bolt action rifle in .300 PRC is purpose-built for hunters who demand a true lightweight mountain rifle without compromising on power or reliability. Weighing just 5.2 lbs, this 28" barrel rifle strips away excess weight while retaining the velocity and energy you need for long-range, high-elevation hunts where every ounce matters. Whether you're climbing at altitude or glassing from a ridge, the Backcountry 2.0 stays comfortable in your hands mile after mile.

The rifle's most striking component is its Peak 44 Blacktooth carbon fiber stock—tipping the scales at only 19 oz, it's among the lightest production stocks available. That carbon fiber isn't just for show; it's engineered for rigidity and durability in harsh backcountry conditions. The fluted barrel, trigger guard, and receiver are finished in Patriot Brown Cerakote, while the bolt, bolt knob, and safety wear a Graphite Black Cerakote for contrast and corrosion resistance. The dark green and brown sponge-pattern accents on the stock blend into high-country terrain.

Recoil management matters when you're carrying a magnum rifle all day, and Weatherby equipped the Backcountry 2.0 with an Accubreak muzzle brake and a 3D Hex Recoil pad to tame the .300 PRC's kick. The combination keeps you steady for follow-up shots and reduces fatigue during long hunting days. This is the rifle you grab when the hike is long, the conditions are unforgiving, and the shot has to count.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Weatherby Mark V Backcountry 2.0 a good choice for long-range hunting?

Yes. The .300 PRC chambering and 28" barrel combination deliver the velocity and energy needed for extended-range hunting. The lightweight design makes it practical to carry to remote areas where you're more likely to encounter truly long-distance shooting opportunities.

How does the weight compare to other mountain rifles?

At 5.2 lbs, the Backcountry 2.0 is among the lightest bolt-action rifles in production. The Peak 44 carbon fiber stock—at just 19 oz—is a major reason for that low overall weight without sacrificing rigidity or durability.

Does the Accubreak brake really reduce recoil?

The Accubreak muzzle brake, paired with the 3D Hex Recoil pad, is designed to manage the recoil impulse of Weatherby's magnum cartridges. This helps with both shooter comfort during long days in the field and shot placement on follow-ups.

What finishes does this rifle come in?

The barrel, trigger guard, and receiver are finished in Patriot Brown Cerakote with fluting. The bolt, bolt knob, and safety are Graphite Black Cerakote. The Peak 44 carbon fiber stock features dark green and brown sponge-pattern accents.
