The Weatherby Mark V Backcountry 2.0 rifle in .240 Wby Mag is built for hunters who refuse to compromise between raw power and packability. Chambered in one of the fastest production cartridges available, this 26" barreled magnum delivers flat trajectories and hard-hitting energy without the weight penalty that typically comes with performance at that level. Weatherby's second-generation Backcountry platform combines a proven steel Mark V action with a suite of modern weight-reduction innovations—from carbon fiber architecture to 3D-printed recoil management—to deliver a rifle that tips the scales at just 5.4 lbs while maintaining the precision and reliability serious hunters demand.

At the heart of the Backcountry 2.0 is the new Peak 44 Blacktooth carbon fiber stock, engineered to shed ounces without sacrificing strength or ergonomics. The standout innovation here is Weatherby's 3DHEX recoil pad—the first 3D-printed pad in production rifles—whose interlocking voids progressively collapse during firing to stretch out recoil impulse and soften the sharp punch of magnum cartridges. The bolt body features more pronounced spiral fluting and a threaded handle fitted with a lightweight aluminum extended knob, reducing friction and weight while improving function. A factory-installed Accubrake ST muzzle brake, contoured to match the barrel profile, uses 30 symmetrically-spaced ports to further tame recoil and enhance shootability.

Aesthetically, the Backcountry 2.0 wears a purpose-built finish: the action, barrel, and trigger guard are coated in Patriot Brown Cerakote, while the carbon fiber stock features dark green and brown sponge pattern accents. The bolt, bolt knob, and safety are finished in Graphite Black. This is a backcountry rifle designed for serious long-distance hunting where every ounce and every yard of elevation count—a modern tool for the hunter who demands speed, precision, and minimal fatigue over long days afield.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the Backcountry 2.0 lighter than other .240 Wby Mag rifles?

The combination of a super-thin fluted barrel, spiral-fluted bolt body, carbon fiber stock (weighing under 20 ounces), and lightweight aluminum components throughout keeps total rifle weight at just 5.4 lbs. Every component has been engineered for weight savings without compromising durability or accuracy.

How does the 3DHEX recoil pad work, and do I really need it for a .240 Wby Mag?

The 3DHEX is a 3D-printed pad featuring interlocking voids that progressively collapse during recoil, stretching out the recoil impulse and softening the sharp kick of magnum cartridges. For a fast cartridge like the .240 Wby Mag, it makes shooting more comfortable and helps with follow-up shot accuracy.

Is the Accubrake ST muzzle brake included?

Yes, the rifle comes factory-installed with the Weatherby Accubrake ST. The brake features 30 symmetrically-spaced ports designed to harness recoil and is contoured to match the barrel profile.

What does the stock finish look like?

The Peak 44 Blacktooth carbon fiber stock features a dark green and brown sponge pattern over the exposed carbon fiber. The action and barrel are finished in Patriot Brown Cerakote, while the bolt, bolt knob, and safety are Graphite Black Cerakote.
