The Taylors & Company 1873 Trapper .357 Magnum lever-action rifle brings authentic Old West handling to modern shooting. This 18-inch barreled reproduction captures the spirit of the classic Winchester 1873—one of the most iconic and versatile lever guns ever made—while chambering the hard-hitting .357 Magnum cartridge. Whether you're setting up a truck gun for backcountry travel, working livestock, or enjoying a day at the range, the compact Trapper profile delivers classic ergonomics and reliable performance in a rifle that doesn't demand a safe the size of a closet.

Built on the proven 1873 platform, this rifle combines a time-tested action with modern manufacturing standards. The octagonal barrel, case-hardened frame, and walnut furniture give it genuine period character—it looks as good in your truck rack as it shoots on steel. The .357 Magnum chambering is a smart choice for hunters and shooters who want rifle-grade ballistics without the recoil or cost of magnum rifle rounds, and 10 rounds of capacity means you've got follow-up shots when you need them.

The 18-inch barrel keeps overall length under 37 inches, making the Trapper easy to handle in tight spaces—brush, vehicles, or saddle scabbards—while still delivering respectable velocity. Buckhorn rear and blade front sights are straightforward, fast, and work without batteries. At just over 7 pounds, it won't wear you out on a long day afield or behind the trigger at a match. This is a rifle built to work, not to impress, and it will reliably do either.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the effective range of the .357 Magnum in this rifle?

We don't have detailed ballistics data, but the .357 Magnum is effective for hunting medium game and target shooting at distances typical for lever-gun hunting—generally inside 150 yards. The 18-inch barrel will deliver velocity advantage over handgun loads. For specific velocity figures and ballistic tables, check with ammunition manufacturers or dedicated reloading resources.

Is this rifle good for hunting?

The 1873 Trapper's compact profile and .357 Magnum power make it versatile for hunting applications where a short, handy rifle is an asset. The 10-round magazine and fast lever action also suit brush hunting or situations where quick follow-ups may be needed. Suitability depends on your game and local regulations—always verify that your intended use and caliber are legal in your area.

How does the 18-inch barrel affect handling and velocity?

The 18-inch barrel keeps the overall rifle under 37 inches, making it maneuverable in vehicles, brush, or tight quarters. You'll sacrifice some velocity compared to longer barrels, but the tradeoff in handling is significant for backcountry and truck-gun use. The octagonal profile adds a touch of classic appeal while maintaining strength.

What sights does it come with, and can I add a scope?

The rifle is equipped with a buckhorn rear sight and blade front sight—simple, fast, and field-proven. We don't have details on scope mounting options or rail systems, so contact us or the manufacturer directly if you're interested in optics compatibility.
