The Taylors & Company 1873 Cattleman revolver in .45 LC is a working replica of the single-action that defined the American frontier. This 5.5" barrel model chambers the full-power .45 Colt cartridge and pairs classic lines with practical heft—at 2.50 lbs, it balances quick handling with the authority serious shooters expect from a Cattleman platform gun. Whether you're running cowboy action matches, hunting, or just appreciating a timeless wheelgun design, this .45 LC revolver delivers the feel and function of the original without the fragility of a museum piece.

The standout feature here is the charcoal blue finish. Unlike the flat, uniform bluing on most production revolvers, charcoal blue is applied using a traditional over-oxidized technique that starts bright and vibrant right out of the box. Over time and with honest use, it naturally softens into a subtle grey patina—a living finish that tells the story of your gun's working life. The frame and hammer receive case hardening for durability and visual contrast, while the barrel and cylinder showcase the full depth of that charcoal blue. For shooters who value aesthetics alongside utility, this finish separates the Cattleman from ordinary production guns.

Ergonomics are straightforward: walnut grips provide a traditional feel that fits most hand sizes, and fixed sights (blade front, frame notch rear) keep things simple and reliable. The 6-round capacity and .45 LC chambering make this revolver versatile enough for competition, field use, or collection. At 11.10" overall length, it's easy to carry and quick to deploy, whether from leather or on the nightstand.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Taylors & Company 1873 Cattleman a .45 LC revolver?

Yes. This model chambers full-power .45 LC ammunition and holds 6 rounds.

What's the difference between the charcoal blue finish and standard bluing?

Charcoal blue is an over-oxidized finish that begins bright blue and naturally transitions to a soft grey patina with use. It develops character and depth over time—each gun's finish becomes unique based on how it's carried and shot. Standard bluing stays uniform and flat by comparison.

What are the sights like on this Cattleman?

The revolver features a fixed front blade sight and a fixed rear notch cut into the frame—the classic configuration. Simple, reliable, and fast to acquire in the field or on the clock.

Is this revolver suitable for cowboy action shooting?

The 1873 Cattleman platform is purpose-built for cowboy action matches. The .45 LC chambering, 6-round capacity, and balanced 5.5" barrel make it a natural choice for competition shooting.
