The Taylors & Co Hammer Coach 20" 12ga side by side shotgun brings authentic Old West handling to modern shooting sports. Built on classic coach gun design, this double-barrel delivers the kind of reliable, fast-handling firepower that defined frontier defense—and today earns respect on the Cowboy Action Shooting circuit. The 20-inch barrels keep the gun nimble and pointable, while the 3-inch chamber gives you flexibility in load selection. Whether you're running competition stages or working upland cover, the Hammer Coach hits the balance between historical character and genuine utility.
This isn't a surface-level reproduction. The mechanical design centers on those Victorian-era rebounding mule-ear external hammers—a feature that gives you positive control and satisfying feedback with every shot. The double-trigger layout means you can select your barrel and manage transitions precisely. The color case-hardened frame and blue barrels aren't just for show; they signal the quality investment Taylors & Co put into this gun. Fit and finish improvements over earlier coach gun models are noticeable in hand, and competitive shooters have validated the gun's durability and reliability stage after stage.
The walnut pistol grip with laser checkering provides secure purchase whether you're shooting in competition kit or field clothes. At 6.7 pounds and 37.25 inches overall, the Hammer Coach remains maneuverable enough for quick work without feeling whippy. The inside chrome-engraved locks add visual appeal that matches the gun's personality. If you want a side by side shotgun that works hard, handles fast, and carries the aesthetic of working Western firearms, this is a serious choice.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Hammer Coach suitable for Cowboy Action Shooting?
Yes. The Hammer Coach is purpose-built for competitive Cowboy Action Shooting and is highly regarded among shooters in that sport. The external hammer design, double triggers, and barrel length all support fast and reliable stage work.
What's the difference between 2.75-inch and 3-inch shells in this gun?
The Hammer Coach is chambered for 3-inch shells, which means it can safely fire both 3-inch and standard 2.75-inch shotgun ammunition. The 3-inch chamber gives you load flexibility without requiring different firearms.
How does the external hammer system work?
The Hammer Coach features Victorian-era rebounding mule-ear external hammers. These are manually cocked by hand and provide direct, positive control over ignition. The rebounding design means they reset after each shot, ready for the next trigger press.
