The Taurus Deputy Tau 2-D35751 .357 Magnum revolver bridges classic single-action aesthetics with modern safety and reliability. Built around a medium steel frame with a 5.5-inch barrel, this 6-round revolver delivers the handling and feel shooters love about traditional Westerns guns—but without the compromises. Whether you're drawn to the Old West aesthetic, planning a backcountry trip, or simply want a versatile handgun that handles .357 Magnum and .38 Special ammunition, the Deputy brings genuine utility to the revolver category.

The single-action hammer drops cleanly under thumb pressure for fast, controlled shooting. What sets the Deputy apart from clone revolvers is its transfer bar safety mechanism—you can safely carry it fully loaded with a round under the hammer, a feature often absent on budget alternatives. The satin black finish on the steel frame, alloy-steel cylinder, and alloy-steel barrel gives the gun a working-gun appearance that doesn't demand babying.

At 41.6 ounces unloaded and 11.04 inches overall, the Deputy strikes a practical balance between pointability and substance. Fixed blade front and rear sights keep things simple and reliable. The 1:16.5-inch right-hand twist rifling with six grooves is optimized for the caliber. This is a no-nonsense revolver for shooters who value dependable mechanics and authentic handling over unnecessary features.

Frequently Asked Questions

What ammunition does the Taurus Deputy Tau use?

The Deputy is chambered in .357 Magnum and safely handles .38 Special ammunition, including .38 Special +P loads. This dual-caliber capability gives you flexibility at the range or in the field.

Is it safe to carry the Deputy with a round under the hammer?

Yes. The Deputy features a transfer bar safety mechanism that prevents the hammer from striking the firing pin unless the trigger is fully pressed. This allows you to safely carry all six chambers loaded.

What's the action type—single-action or double-action?

The Deputy is a dual-action revolver (DA/SA). You can fire it in double-action mode by pressing the trigger directly, or cock the hammer first for a lighter, single-action trigger pull for precise shooting.

What sights come on the Taurus Deputy?

The Deputy is equipped with fixed blade front and rear sights—reliable, durable sights that require no adjustment or batteries and will serve you well at practical distances.
