The Savage Rascal Youth .22 LR rifle is built specifically for young shooters learning the fundamentals of marksmanship. This bolt-action .22 chambered in .22 LR delivers a light recoil platform that won't intimidate new shooters, while the compact 16.125-inch barrel and 31.5-inch overall length fit smaller frames comfortably. At just 2.66 pounds, it's easy to carry and handle for a full day at the range or in the field, making it an ideal first rifle for kids, teens, and smaller-framed adults.
The Rascal's single-shot capacity keeps the focus on accuracy and safety—one round at a time encourages deliberate shooting and teaches trigger control from the start. The satin blued finish resists corrosion during regular use, while the black synthetic stock won't warp or swell with weather exposure, so you won't fight shifts in point of impact. The 1:16 twist rate is optimized for standard .22 LR ammunition across the weight spectrum.
Whether you're introducing a young shooter to firearms, training for small-game hunting, or punching paper at the range, the Rascal is a no-nonsense trainer that doesn't compromise on Savage's reputation for reliability. It's uncomplicated, durable, and built to last through years of shooting.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this rifle good for teaching a beginner to shoot?
Yes. The Rascal's light recoil, simple bolt action, and single-shot design are purposefully matched to new shooters. The compact size and low weight make it easy for young people to mount and control, while the straightforward manual of arms keeps the focus on safety and fundamentals rather than managing a complex rifle.
What ammunition does the Savage Rascal .22 LR use?
It fires standard .22 LR ammunition. The 1:16 twist rate stabilizes typical .22 LR rounds across different bullet weights, and .22 LR ammo is readily available and affordable, making it economical for practice and training.
Will this rifle fit a smaller person?
The Rascal is designed for youth and smaller-framed shooters. At 31.5 inches overall and only 2.66 pounds, it provides a scaled platform that younger hunters and shooters can comfortably manage and aim without fatigue.
Is the black synthetic stock durable?
Yes. Synthetic stocks are inherently resistant to warping, swelling, and weather damage, making them ideal for rugged use. The black finish is low-maintenance and won't require refinishing like wood, so the rifle stays reliable in varied conditions.
