The Rossi R95 45-70 Govt lever-action rifle brings genuine rifle-counter soul to a compact, hard-hitting package. At 16.5 inches, this short-barreled 45-70 splits the difference between maneuverability and the stopping power that makes the Government cartridge legendary for hunting and defense. If you value the mechanical satisfaction of working a lever action paired with serious caliber performance, this Rossi delivers both without pretense.

The R95's compact profile—35.5 inches overall—makes it a natural fit for brush hunting, truck-mounted adventures, or situations where you need rifle capability in a tighter footprint. The 5-round capacity and smooth lever cycle keep you in the fight, while the threaded 5/8x24 muzzle means you can thread a brake, suppressor, or other device to your liking. Sights come dialed in from the factory: drift-adjustable front and adjustable buckhorn rear, so you can get running without waiting for optics to arrive.

Built on an alloy steel frame and barrel with black oxide finish, the R95 is finished in that honest tool aesthetic—black oxide and hardwood. This isn't a rifle trying to be something it isn't; it's a straightforward, purposeful lever gun for shooters who respect the 45-70's heritage and capability. The 1:12 RH twist stabilizes standard projectiles, and at just over 6.7 pounds unloaded, it won't wear you out on a long day.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Rossi R95 best used for?

The R95 in 45-70 Government works well for hunting, especially in brush or thick cover where its compact length is an asset. The 45-70 cartridge is known for power at moderate ranges and is also favored for defense. The short barrel makes it practical for truck storage, horseback hunting, or overlanding where space is limited.

Can I mount a suppressor on the R95?

Yes. The barrel is threaded 5/8x24, which is a standard suppressor thread pitch. You can add a suppressor, muzzle brake, or other 5/8x24 device.

Does the R95 come with a scope or only sights?

The R95 ships with factory-installed buckhorn rear and drift-adjustable front sights. It does not include a scope. The rifle is ready to shoot out of the box with iron sights, and you can add optics if desired.

Is the lever action smooth on the Rossi R95?

The R95 is designed for smooth lever cycling. The quality of the action will depend on proper maintenance and use, but lever-action rifles of this type are known for reliable, satisfying mechanical operation when cared for.
