The Remington 870 Tactical is a 20-gauge pump-action shotgun built on one of the most proven platform designs in American firearms. The 18.5" barrel gives you a compact, maneuverable profile that works for home defense, sport shooting, or tactical training—without sacrificing the reliability that's made the 870 a standard for decades. The blue finish is classic Remington, clean and durable.

A 20-gauge pump shotgun hits a sweet spot for shooters who want manageable recoil without compromising effectiveness. The Remington 870's straightforward mechanics—exposed hammer, smooth action, conventional controls—mean there's nothing to re-learn if you've worked with a pump gun before, and nothing mysterious if you're building your first one. This is a shotgun that does its job and stays out of your way.

The 18.5" barrel length keeps the gun nimble in tight spaces or vehicle storage, a practical advantage whether you're setting up for home defense or running scenarios at the range. The 870 Tactical action cycles reliably through standard and magnum loads, and the gun accepts Remington's extensive aftermarket support for stocks, fore-ends, sights, and accessories if you want to personalize it down the road.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between a 20-gauge and 12-gauge pump shotgun?

The 20-gauge fires a smaller, lighter load than the 12-gauge, which typically means less recoil and reduced fatigue over extended shooting sessions. Both gauges are effective; the 20 is a smart choice if you're recoil-sensitive or running high round counts for training.

Is the Remington 870 Tactical good for home defense?

Yes. The 18.5" barrel keeps the overall length compact for maneuvering indoors, and the pump action is intuitive and reliable. The 870 platform is widely used by professional security and law enforcement for exactly this role.

Can I customize or upgrade the 870 Tactical?

The 870 is one of the most aftermarket-friendly shotguns available. Stocks, fore-ends, sights, magazine extensions, and other tactical accessories are readily available from Remington and third-party manufacturers.
