The Remington 870 Fieldmaster 20-gauge pump action shotgun is a compact, no-frills workhorse built on the platform that's been the standard for slide-action shotguns for over 60 years. This 20" barrel model in black brings the proven reliability of the 870 family to hunters and shooters who want dependable performance without paying for features they don't need. The solid steel receiver, dual action bars, and tight tolerances you get in a $5,000 Wingmaster are here—just dressed down for the field instead of the display case.

The 20-gauge chambering and compact dimensions make this shotgun an excellent choice for younger hunters, smaller-framed shooters, and anyone who values faster handling in tight brush or from a blind. It cycles both 2¾" and 3" shells, so you're not locked into one load type. The matte black finish and laminate furniture are designed to be seen in the truck bed, not hung on a wall—practical gear that won't distract game or wear your patience if it gets dinged during a hunt.

You get three flush-fit Rem Choke tubes (Improved Cylinder, Modified, Full) right out of the box, plus a choke tube wrench, magazine plug, and cable lock. The receiver is drilled and tapped for scope mounting if you want to add glass for rifled slugs. For the compact 20-gauge models, Remington includes a length-of-pull kit so you can dial in the fit—a thoughtful detail for kids or petite hunters where stock length matters.

This is a shotgun that will pattern consistently, cycle smoothly, and still be running strong long after you've moved on to something fancier. The Fieldmaster philosophy is straightforward: do the job, do it right, don't charge luxury pricing for it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use both 2¾" and 3" shells in the Remington 870 Fieldmaster 20-gauge?

Yes. This shotgun is chambered for both 2¾" and 3" shells, so you can mix loads depending on your needs—lighter target loads, hunting applications, or heavier magnum rounds all work in the same gun.

Is this shotgun suitable for younger or smaller hunters?

The 20-gauge Fieldmaster is an excellent choice for youth and smaller-framed shooters. The compact 20-gauge models come with a length-of-pull adjustment kit so you can tailor the stock fit to the shooter, which is important for proper form and comfort.

What choke tubes come with the shotgun, and can I swap them?

Three flush-fit Rem Choke tubes are included: Improved Cylinder, Modified, and Full. They are fully interchangeable, and you can add other Rem Choke options to match different hunting or clay shooting scenarios. A choke tube wrench is provided for easy removal and installation.

Can I mount a scope on the Remington 870 Fieldmaster?

Yes. The receiver is drilled and tapped for scope mounting, so you can add optics for rifled slug hunting or other specialized applications.
