The Remington 870 12ga pump action shotgun has earned its reputation as America's most reliable slide-action shotgun over nearly seven decades—and this 21-inch barrel youth model carries that legacy forward. Built on the same battle-tested action that's defined dependable shotgun performance, the Model R81116 combines a shorter barrel and 14-inch length of pull to deliver a properly balanced gun for younger hunters and shooters of smaller stature. Whether you're working spring turkeys, hunting upland birds, or running clay targets, the 870's legendary pointability and straightforward mechanics make it equally at home in the field or on the range.

This shotgun features a receiver milled from solid steel billet—no castings, no shortcuts—paired with a 21-inch vent-rib barrel that helps with sight picture and lets you swing through targets naturally. The Kryptek Obskura Transitional camo pattern on the synthetic stock and fore-end works across varied terrain, while the matte black finish on the barrel and receiver stands ready for seasons to come. A sling swivel attachment is integrated into the stock, so you can rig it how you hunt. The gun ships with a Turkey Extra Full Rem Choke already installed and handles both 2¾-inch and 3-inch magnum shells, giving you flexibility in load selection whether you're patterning shot or hunting live birds.

If you value a shotgun that works the first time every time and doesn't fuss about maintenance or minor weather, the 870 design is hard to beat. The pump action is smooth and fast, barrel changes are tool-free, and parts availability is nationwide. This isn't trendy or flashy—it's simply the most proven, field-ready 12-gauge pump shotgun available to a young or petite hunter ready to take on serious hunting duties.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this 870 good for turkey hunting?

Yes. It ships with a Turkey Extra Full Rem Choke installed and handles 3-inch magnum shells for the knockdown power turkey hunting demands. The 21-inch vent-rib barrel and camo finish round out a dedicated turkey gun setup.

Will this work for a younger or smaller hunter?

Yes. The 14-inch length of pull and 21-inch barrel are designed specifically for youth and hunters of smaller stature, ensuring proper fit, balance, and control.

Can I change the choke?

Yes. The gun comes with a Rem Choke tube already installed, and you can swap it out for other Rem Choke tubes to match different hunting or shooting scenarios.

What's the difference between 2¾ and 3-inch shells?

This shotgun safely fires both. 3-inch shells hold more shot and powder for increased range and knockdown power; 2¾-inch shells are lighter-recoiling and suit general shooting and hunting. The gun's action, barrel, and receiver are rated for both, so your choice depends on your hunting goal and how much recoil you're comfortable with.
