The Remington 700 SPS Varmint in .223 Rem is purpose-built for shooters who demand tight groups and reliable performance at the range or in the field. Built around the legendary Model 700 bolt-action—arguably the most trusted action in the industry—this rifle combines proven mechanical accuracy with practical varmint-hunting features. The 26-inch heavy-contour barrel is specifically matched to the velocity characteristics of .223 ammunition, promoting the precision that makes this platform a benchmark for varmint and predator work.

The Model 700 action itself is engineered from solid-steel bar stock and features Remington's three-rings-of-steel design: the recessed bolt face locks inside a counter-bored breech, surrounded by the receiver, creating exceptional strength around the cartridge case head. The cylindrical receiver provides a solid, consistent bedding platform in the stock for repeatable shot placement. All this precision machinery arrives drilled and tapped for scope rings, ready to mount your optics and get to work.

Practicality matters in a varmint rifle, and the SPS Varmint delivers. The black synthetic stock features a vented beavertail fore-end for enhanced grip control, reduced weight, and better heat management during extended shooting sessions. The matte blued finish on barrel and receiver resists reflection—useful when stalking wary game. A SuperCell recoil pad, hinged floor-plate magazine, and sling swivel studs round out the standard package. The threaded muzzle (1/2 x 28 on this .223 Rem model) accepts suppressors or muzzle devices, giving you flexibility for your specific setup.

If you're serious about varmint accuracy and want a rifle that will shoot consistently tight groups out of the box, the Remington 700 SPS Varmint delivers the pedigree and features that have made the Model 700 the go-to platform for precision shooters for generations.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the Model 700 action so accurate?

The Model 700 action is machined from solid-steel bar stock and features a cylindrical receiver design that provides a consistent, rigid bedding base in the stock. The three-rings-of-steel construction—where the recessed bolt face locks into a counter-bored breech surrounded by the receiver—creates exceptional strength and minimal deflection under load, translating to repeatable, tight groups.

Can I mount a suppressor or muzzle brake on this rifle?

Yes. The SPS Varmint comes with a threaded muzzle in 1/2 x 28 specification, which is the standard thread pitch for many suppressors and aftermarket muzzle devices in .223 Rem. Always verify compatibility with your specific accessory before installation.

Is the receiver ready for a scope?

Yes. The receiver is drilled and tapped for standard scope ring mounting, so you can mount your optics directly without additional gunsmithing.

What's the purpose of the vented beavertail fore-end?

The vented beavertail fore-end improves grip ergonomics and provides better forward control during shooting. The venting also helps dissipate heat during extended range sessions, keeping the stock cooler and more comfortable to handle.
