The Mossberg Patriot .30-06 rifle in black synthetic is a straightforward, no-nonsense bolt-action built for hunters who value reliability and value. This Model 27892 bridges the gap between budget-conscious shooters and those who refuse to compromise on performance—it's the kind of rifle that works whether you're glassing from a ridge at dawn or breaking in a new shooter at the range. The .30-06 cartridge is the workhorse of North American hunting, proven effective on everything from whitetail to elk, and the Patriot's design keeps you focused on fieldcraft rather than fiddling with the gun.
The receiver is built on Mossberg's proven bolt-action platform, paired with a 22-inch barrel that balances velocity, handling, and sight-radius without adding unnecessary length. At 42.75 inches overall and 6.5 pounds, the rifle is trim enough for thick brush or long glassing sessions but substantial enough to manage .30-06 recoil predictably. The synthetic stock sheds weather without the maintenance of wood, making it a practical choice for serious hunting conditions where rain, snow, or morning dew are the norm rather than the exception.
The 5-round magazine capacity covers most hunting situations without bulk, and the 1:10 twist rate is standard for the .30-06, accommodating a wide range of bullet weights and factory loads. The matte blue finish resists glint and corrosion in typical field use. This isn't a race gun or a show piece—it's a rifle designed to get to the field, shoot straight, and come home with meat or memories.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Mossberg Patriot .30-06 a good beginner rifle?
Yes. The Patriot's reliable bolt-action design, moderate weight at 6.5 pounds, and proven .30-06 platform make it an accessible entry point for hunters and shooters. The synthetic stock is durable and low-maintenance, and the rifle's ergonomics and balance work well for shooters across experience levels.
What's the effective hunting range of this rifle?
The .30-06 Springfield and 22-inch barrel combination is effective for hunting at typical North American distances—well beyond 200 yards for most game animals. Your effective range depends on the shooter's skill, the specific load, and the bullet choice, but the platform itself is proven for hunting at extended range.
Can I use this rifle with a scope?
The Mossberg Patriot features a drilled and tapped receiver, allowing you to mount optics using standard bases and rings. Many hunters equip this rifle with a scope for improved accuracy and low-light performance.
What ammunition does it take?
This rifle is chambered in .30-06 Springfield, a widely available centerfire rifle cartridge. The 1:10 twist rate is standard for this caliber and works reliably with common hunting loads and factory ammunition.
