The Mossberg Patriot .270 Win rifle is a versatile bolt-action centerfire designed for hunters who want proven accuracy and reliable field performance without unnecessary complexity or weight. Built on Mossberg's straightforward Patriot action and chambered in the venerable .270 Winchester—a cartridge trusted for everything from whitetail to elk—this 22-inch barrel model strikes a practical balance between velocity, handling, and portability. The synthetic stock resists weather and wear, making it equally at home in wet conditions or slung across your shoulder for a long day in the field.
At 6.5 pounds, the Patriot carries comfortably for extended hunts without sacrificing the inherent stability of a full-size rifle. The 42.75-inch overall length keeps things nimble in timber or around vehicle setups, while the 1:10 barrel twist is optimized for standard .270 Winchester loads. The 5-round capacity covers most practical hunting scenarios, and the matte-blue finish on the action pairs cleanly with the black synthetic furniture for a no-frills, functional aesthetic. This is a rifle built to hunt, not to turn heads at the range.
Mossberg's Patriot line is known for delivering solid mechanical reliability at a straightforward price point. Whether you're a first-time centerfire buyer, a seasoned hunter looking for a truck gun, or someone building out a multi-caliber battery, the .270 Winchester platform gives you access to a deep bench of ammunition options and proven real-world ballistics. No AR-platform ergonomics, no modern-tactical furniture—just a clean, classic bolt gun that gets the job done.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the .270 Winchester good for?
The .270 Win is a proven all-around hunting cartridge that handles medium game like whitetail and mule deer very well, and is capable on larger game like elk. It's been a standard in American hunting for decades, offers excellent ballistics and a flat trajectory, and ammunition is widely available at any hunting retailer.
Is this rifle suitable for a first-time centerfire buyer?
Yes. The Patriot is straightforward to operate and maintain—classic bolt-action simplicity with no unnecessary complication. At 6.5 pounds, it's manageable for new shooters, and the .270 Win cartridge provides accessible ballistics and recoil for hunters building fundamental centerfire skills.
How does the 22-inch barrel affect performance?
A 22-inch barrel in .270 Winchester gives you strong field velocity and a good balance between muzzle energy and handling weight. It's long enough to deliver the ballistics the cartridge is designed for, but short enough to remain nimble in timber or close quarters.
What's the synthetic stock like?
The black synthetic stock is durable, weather-resistant, and low-maintenance. It won't swell or warp in wet conditions like wood, and it requires no special care—practical for hunting or hard field use.
