The Mossberg Gold Reserve 20-gauge over/under shotgun brings genuine craftsmanship to a platform that works equally well in upland fields, duck marshes, or on the clay target range. This 30-inch barrel model pairs the classic lines of a break-action shotgun with performance features typically found on shotguns commanding premium prices. Whether you're working through a covey of birds or stacking targets at 5-Stand, the Gold Reserve delivers the balance of handling and reliability that makes a gun worth reaching for season after season.

What sets this over/under apart is attention to the details that matter in real shooting. The polished receiver wears scroll engraving and gold inlay—finished without pretense—while the Grade-A walnut stock feels substantial and solid in your hands. Dual locking lugs keep the action tight, and jeweled internals speak to manufacturing standards that go beyond the bare minimum. The tang-mounted safety doubles as a barrel selector, letting you choose your shot sequence without moving your grip.

Mossberg equipped this shotgun for versatility. The included extended sport choke set (five chokes total) lets you dial in your pattern for the day's conditions, whether that's open cylinder for close birds or tighter constriction for distance. Chrome-lined bores and chambers shrug off the wet and grime of a real hunting day, and the ejectors clear empties automatically—a genuine convenience when you're moving fast or working through a longer shooting session.

This is a shotgun built to shoot, not just to sit in a cabinet. At 6.25 pounds with a 47-inch overall length and fixed 14-inch length of pull, it swings naturally and points where you're looking. If you've been comparing entry-level over/unders and want something that won't leave you wanting better components or fit after a season in the field, the Gold Reserve deserves a close look.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's included in the choke set?

The Gold Reserve comes with an extended sport choke set of five chokes, giving you options to adjust your shot pattern for different hunting scenarios and target distances. Extended chokes also provide better reach and point-of-aim consistency compared to flush-mounted designs.

Is this shotgun suitable for hunting and clay shooting?

Yes. The 20-gauge over/under works in upland fields, waterfowl marshes, and at clay shooting disciplines like 5-Stand. The 30-inch barrels and included sport chokes support both hunting and target applications.

What does the tang-mounted safety do?

The safety is mounted on the tang (the upper rear of the receiver) and doubles as a barrel selector, letting you choose which barrel fires first without moving your hand or grip. This design keeps your hand in a consistent shooting position.

How does this shotgun handle rough weather and wet conditions?

The bores and chambers are chrome-lined for corrosion resistance, and the polished blue barrel and walnut furniture can withstand regular field use. Proper cleaning and maintenance will keep it functioning reliably through seasons of hunting or shooting.
