The Mossberg 590A1 Retrograde 12-gauge pump-action shotgun brings proven mil-spec reliability home in a package that honors classic fighting shotgun aesthetics. Built on the same rugged platform trusted by military and law enforcement, this 9-shot 12ga combines the durable, battle-tested 590A1 design with period-correct walnut furniture—a deliberate departure from polymer tacticool and a nod to shotguns that defined generations of hunters and home defenders. If you want a reliable, no-nonsense pump shotgun with character and proven performance, the Retrograde delivers both.
The 20-inch barrel keeps this shotgun maneuverable in tight spaces while maintaining the velocity needed for hunting and defensive work. At 41 inches overall and 7.25 pounds, it points naturally and handles smoothly whether you're moving through brush or responding in your home. The plain muzzle with cylinder-bore barrel gives you flexibility to run buckshot, slugs, or birdshot depending on your mission. The Parkerized finish on the metal parts—the same protective coating used on military arms—resists corrosion and wear, so your shotgun ages gracefully rather than showing every ding.
What sets the Retrograde apart is the walnut stock and corncob-style forend. These aren't cosmetic indulgences; they feel warm in your hands, age with character, and provide reliable purchase in all weather. The lengthened magazine tube holds nine rounds total (eight in the tube plus one in the chamber), giving you genuine firepower when it counts. This is a shotgun built to be used, not just owned—whether you're hunting upland game, running clay courses, or keeping one ready for home defense.

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes the 590A1 Retrograde different from other Mossberg 590A1 shotguns?
The Retrograde pairs the proven 590A1 mil-spec design with walnut wood furniture instead of the polymer stocks found on standard 590A1 models. The walnut stock and corncob forend give it a classic shotgun appearance while maintaining all the reliability and durability the platform is known for.
How many rounds does the 590A1 Retrograde hold?
The shotgun holds 9 rounds total: 8 in the lengthened magazine tube and 1 in the chamber, giving you solid firepower for hunting, sport shooting, or home defense.
What types of ammunition can I use in this 12-gauge shotgun?
The cylinder-bore barrel is versatile and will handle buckshot, slugs, and birdshot, making the Retrograde suitable for hunting, clay sports, and defensive applications.
Is the 590A1 Retrograde suitable for hunting?
Yes. The 20-inch barrel length, cylinder-bore versatility, and nine-shot capacity make it well-suited for upland game hunting and other hunting applications where a pump-action 12-gauge excels.
