The Mossberg 400 Leg is a 20-gauge shotgun built for hunters and sport shooters who value reliability, handling, and a classic wood-furniture aesthetic. This four-round shotgun pairs Mossberg's reputation for rugged dependability with walnut furniture that ages gracefully in the field. The 20-gauge platform offers a manageable recoil profile and wider shot-placement forgiveness compared to smaller gauges, making it a smart choice for hunters transitioning to centerfire shotguns or those who prefer a lighter-recoiling upland and small-game gun.
Mossberg shotguns are known for straightforward function and easy maintenance—traits that matter when you're miles from the truck. The walnut stock and fore-end give this gun a traditional look that works whether you're hunting ducks, upland birds, or running steel plates at a local range. At four rounds, the 400 Leg carries enough ammunition to handle most hunting scenarios without excess bulk.
Whether you're new to shotguns or adding a second gun to your safe, a 20-gauge with classic lines and proven Mossberg mechanics is a no-nonsense addition to your arsenal.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a 20-gauge shotgun best used for?
A 20-gauge is ideal for upland hunting, small-game hunting, clay sports, and training new shooters due to its lighter recoil compared to 12-gauge loads while still delivering effective patterns at typical hunting distances.
Is the Mossberg 400 Leg good for beginners?
Yes. The 20-gauge's reduced recoil makes it a solid starting point for shooters learning shotgun fundamentals, and Mossberg's straightforward design means fewer features to master and easy field maintenance.
What does a 4-round capacity mean?
The shotgun holds four shells total: either in a magazine tube beneath the barrel and one in the chamber, depending on the specific configuration. This is typical for many traditional shotgun designs.
