The Maverick Arms 88 Security 12-gauge pump action shotgun is a straightforward, no-frills home defense and utility shotgun built around a proven design. This Model 31023 pairs an 18.5" barrel with a 6-round magazine tube and fixed 14.25" length of pull, giving you a compact, maneuverable platform that handles tight interior spaces without sacrificing capacity. If you're looking for a reliable, affordable pump shotgun for home security, clay work, or hunting situations where you don't need premium ergonomics or a tricked-out feature set, the Maverick 88 Security delivers exactly what it promises: solid mechanics and no pretense.
Maverick Arms built this shotgun on the principle that a fighting gun doesn't need to be fancy. The synthetic black stock resists weather and abuse, the cylinder-bore choke keeps patterns wide for close work, and the simple bead sight is fast and intuitive in defensive scenarios. At 7 pounds, it's light enough for extended handling yet substantial enough to manage recoil sensibly. The 3" chamber accepts both 2.75" and 3" shells, giving you flexibility in ammunition selection depending on your mission—buckshot for defense, slugs for hunting larger game, or target loads for practice.
The pump action itself is the workhorse of defensive shotguns: reliable, fast to work, and familiar to anyone who's ever shot a shotgun. There's no learning curve and no surprises. This gun points and shoots, and it'll keep doing that regardless of how you maintain it—or how hard you use it. At this price point and with this straightforward spec sheet, you're not paying for marketing or brand mystique; you're buying a tool.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Maverick 88 Security good for home defense?
Yes. The 18.5" barrel keeps the shotgun compact in hallways and tight spaces, and the 6-round magazine gives you multiple shots without reloading. The cylinder-bore choke throws a wide pattern that works well at typical home-defense distances. The pump action is reliable and requires no batteries or complex adjustments.
What ammunition does this shotgun accept?
The 3" chamber accepts both 2.75" and 3" shotgun shells, so you have flexibility in choosing buckshot, slugs, birdshot, or any other factory ammunition in those lengths.
What is the length of pull, and does it fit standard adult shooters?
The fixed length of pull is 14.25", which is the standard measurement for adult shooters. If you require a significantly different fit, this shotgun's fixed stock does not adjust.
Does this shotgun come with adjustable chokes?
No. The Maverick 88 Security comes with a fixed cylinder-bore choke, which provides a wide, fast-opening pattern suitable for defensive use and hunting at close to medium range.
